Obama is gonna get shot I have no doubt about that (please realize i DONT WANT him to be shot, i just believe that he will be) the only question i have is....when it happens....what then?

How will people react? Will ethnic groups in this country point the finger at one another? will a type of civil war happen? (thats extreme but who knows)

All the progress the country has made towards equality has been great and hopefully the future will include a point where racism is a thing of the past (doubtful), but something like that might fuck up everything thats been improved over the years.

I'd probably be more worried about something happening overseas than at home. most of the ppl claiming to take him down have been nothing more than a crude redneck, or two. no doubt there'll be good few of grassroots assassination attempts ('Adolf' from Denver comes to mind) , but none of them should be taken too seriously either. the assailants will probably too drunk on moonshine to even aim.

When obama is elected he'll need to create some sort of task force to deal with it and quell the racist response in regard to assassination attempts. There will be a few.

Then everyone who didn't like obama before the election will use that as an indication of a socialist state not realizing its normal to not want to die.

I mean, I would hate for EVERY member of Secret Service assigned to him to get a cellphone call, have to sneeze, yawn or tie their shoes JUST as he HAPPENS to exit a limousine, only to see his shell get hit (although, there are a couple of posters in the OTHER election threads who would love this)...

Assassination wouldn't happen without planning and skill (especially if the assassin was intent on not being caught), but it IS within the skill of many people out there. Especially if you don't give a shit if you die doing it. It doesn't matter who you are, or what kind of security you have, if you are within the public realm at any time at all... You're vulnerable somewhere, somehow. I agree it likely wouldn't happen, and if it did, it would likely fail. I just don't agree with you that security measures alone are a guarantee of the opposite.

It also comes down to the fact that most people who are capable of carrying any attempt out, have zero reason or motivation to do so.

IIRC I read somewhere that the president receives, in some form, threats of harm or assassination that are aware to the secret service etc. at least on a weekly basis. With Obama being the candidate and the latests media darling, and especially if he is elected, for them to suddenly become much more publicized....

No, not at all. I simply meant how the media typically acts with things of that nature. I didn't mean it towards his political ideology as more towards his status within the mass media and the whole Obama "mania" that many people seem to be on. I also didn't mean EVERY threat would make headlines, or even more would than before. I just expect to see them more aggresively publicized when they are made public.

It's scary how many of those assassinations attempts are thwarted by luck or conscience. If someone was determined and careful enough, alot of those would have succeeded.

Good thing normal clear thinking people don't try to kill the president, because assassinations are uncool.

I personally hate politics and think either candidate will fail miserably in their term in office, I do however think that if Obama is elected, attempts will be made on his life simply because of his ethnic background, as sad as that may be. Not one person posting in this thread knows fully the capabilities of some of the extremist groups in this country and the power they can actually have. If Obama gets elected, I will be living in fear that this country will implode when/if a true attempt is made on his life.
