I tracked down an oil leak next to the alternator and am not really sure where it is coming from. I was hoping some of you guys with more experience working on these cars might have some insight as to where exactly it's coming from. I used a uv dye and only saw one leak while the car is running. The car is a 95 240sx.as you can see it's next to the alternator on top of the oil pan.

could be from you oil pan gasket being bad or possibly running down from another place

I've replaced the gasket twice already and I checked and thats not it. In the pictures it shows the leak by the top of the alternator next to it so its higher than the oil pan for sure.

First off, you should pressure wash your engine bay, it's easier to find leaks.
I'm willing to bet it's your front main seal.

its not your main seal, its not leaking behind the pulley, its coming from near the alt as seen in the pics. its your front timing cover. you just need to clean it and reseal it. takes forever and is a lot of labor. check your pvc while your there too.

Thanks that what I was thinking after looking up oil leaks. I saw that you need to remove the oil pick up to get the bottom cover off meaning pulling off the oil pan once again. Is there anyway around this if it's leaking from the top part of the cover?

Probably not man, the pick up line might not be able to slide out with the pan attached, you can always try to wiggle it out a bit and remove the three bolts holding the pick up line to the block, but good luck trying to re install it. your going to want to have the cover fully off so you can clean it and apply a solid bead of sealer to it. you might as well do it right the first time or risk it leaking again.

if i was you, i would remove the pan, clean it, remove the front lower timing cover, clean it, inspect the top timing cover for leaks/cracks, clean it and reseal everything properly.
