i need help s14 tranny and motor in s13
hey guys so i just finished a s14 motor and tranny swap in my s13 that already had a dual cam and when i push the clutch in theres a grinding type noise, but once i release the clutch it goes away. it does it every other time i do this or if i push it in after a couple of seconds it makes the grinding type noise. sometimes it doesn't do it and sometimes the noise is low. the clutch kit is new which includes the throw out bearing, pilot bearing and the flywheel. the master and slave cylinder is factory so it has the dampener, I'm going to order the stainless steel clutch line that goes straight from master to slave now. if anyone has any ideas or can help me figure this out i would appreciate it greatly, thanks alot in advanced.

Not uncommon if you do a swap and dont replace the throw out bearing I always recommend doing a clutch, throw out bearing, and pilot bushing replacement whenever you are doing a swap or have the trans apart. A clutch kit that includes all 3 parts is only ~$100 at any of your local auto parts stores |

On the note of the braided line, just dont buy an Isis... Ive had very bad experiences with isis braided clutch lines, mine leaked straight out of the box. |

the clutch kit is an ACT. this one to be exact ACT NX1-HDG6 Street Strip Clutch Kit 89-90 KA24E 95-98 KA24DE 240SX. do you think if theres a leak on the line going from the master to the slave, that it can cause an issue like this? or does it sound like a TOB? One of my friends yesterday told me the same thing. So did a neighbor when he passed by and heard. he came into my yard and said it sounds like your bearings jacked up so im thinking most likely its the bearing. but it doesn't do it in gear or while driving it only does it when i have the clutch pushed down. and also when this happens it feels a little harder to put it in gear. thanks for the help |

Again, just cuz its new doesnt mean its good. No, a leaky line doesnt cause a grinding sound when you press the clutch pedal. When you press the pedal down, the TOB is pressed against the clutch pressure plate. The TOB spins with the pressure plate. That TOB spinning is what you're hearing. When you're off the pedal, the TOB isnt spinning or contacting the pressure plate, thats why you're not hearing it when you're off the pedal.

IIRC, when I ran my ACT Clutch, I ended up running an OEM TOB off a Z32 and got that directly from Nissan. Double check on that to make sure they're the same thickness before you toss that in. Width doesnt matter much if one TOB is bigger. Thickness is what you have to make sure is the same.
