She is not sure about a career as a starving artists, but I've done internships at radio stations, and shadowed movie makers. So my career can keep going without school, as long as i have recognition. But Clemson although 40 minutes away doesn't really support our interest. and orange can become a little tiring.

That's good, but yea I've tried, as well as a few other people I know and it's a really competitive market. The engineers coming out of a lot of non US schools have impressive resume's and the background to prove it. I've seen what they can do and it's no wonder they take even the job openings in the US

mechanical engineering, might go back too pursue composites or aerospace to be more marketable. It's hard to break into 6 figures in strictly mechanical(location dependent).

Im currently working on a MS Systems Engineering degree.
it seems like most 6 fig engineers are in a project or management position rather than technical stuff.

There's also a good reason I have season football tickets and get there before 9am to start tailgating, and that's not even taking the college women into consideration.

I don't want to get started on project engineers. As far as I've been able to see project manager means anything from ingnorant worthless bullshitter to 100hr a week overacheiving slave to the desk. |

I agree with specialization, but i see a down side to that also. Some specialized fields limits you to moving to certain areas. For instance, its not uncommon for Schlumberger (oil and petroleum stuff) to pay fairly new engineers in the 80k and up salary, but you must work in a remote area for months at a time being on call. That example is on the harsher side of the spectrum. I work in the Naval nuclear field (I'd say this is fairly specialized) and I just feel it so restrictive in that the only so many other places you can go. Our location in Newport News is the only place in the country that can build nuclear carriers and refuel/defuel them. Many of the senior engineers advised young engineers that if one stays there too long, they become close to useless anywhere else.. but of course the plus side is its not uncommon to see some of my co-workers about my age bringing in 80k.
