Charlies New S13 - Ground up build
Hi guys,
Thought I'd show you what ive been working on lately. Some of you might remember my old car. Ended up parting that for personal reasons and because I wasnt really stoked on it. ![]() ![]() ![]() Ended up trying to put together a street car. Chose a Jzx110 as a base which was pretty cool. Did a bunch of steering mods etc and eventually a turbo upgrade. Super cool car in the end but it got me wanting something I wasnt scared to ruin when i wanted to start pushing my driving. ![]() ![]() ![]() Sold that to a guy who wanted a cool street car and wasn't too phased with drifting. So that brings us to now. Picked up a cheap s13 with a few good parts and a few good parts i could sell. There were some cons, shitty sunroof block off, some damage to the quarters, previous front end damage some fixed some not and rough tubs from previous damage/fix. Its not the cleanest shell, but for what i wanted it suited my needs and it all measured up fine. Plans for now is to, strip it right down, new tubs, cut out rear guards, half cage, rewire and paint interior/engine bay. Ill be picking up parts where i can but this isnt gonna be a super fast build. Eventually it will be low, wide and kitted but pulled off a lot better then my previous car. Anyways heres some pics ![]() In all its glory. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Pulled Motor and box ![]() Stripped interior and pulled sound deadening out ![]() ![]() Cut out rear guards ![]() Cut out front damaged tubs and made some replacements ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Will update when I can/have anything to update. Thanks Guys !! |

Still getting Internet sorted at my new place so until then there won't be much. Follow my Instagram if you're that interested haha. Charlie_h_91. Had a set back with the shell after uncovering a lot of rust in the roof but hopefully that's the end of bad things haha.

Alright ! Internet is up and running. So over the past few weeks ive been doing bits and pieces where i can. Finished stitching the tubs in and shaved some holes i wasnt using off the fire wall and rad support just to clean it up a bit.
![]() Started to wire wheel off the old sealant from the make shift sun roof block off and this is where it got shitty haha. Wire wheel dug in a bit in the corners so i kept it going to find this. ![]() ![]() So needless to say i was less then impressed lol. Started looking into solutions and ended up coming up with the plan to swap another roof onto it. While I was still sorting that out, I made a power brace (dont mind the red it will be going) and started to crack on with wiring. Plan for that is to strip everything i don't need and to tuck the engine bay wires/clean the harness up, relocate fuse box and ignitor into the cabin and make up a small switch panel. ![]() ![]() ![]() Today I went off to cut a roof off a car before it went to scrap. Couple small dents but overall in good condition. Will paint strip it back this week and then work out a plan to cut the current roof off and swap this one in. ![]() Anyways until next time ![]() ![]() Last edited by Charlie_91; 05-22-2016 at 05:30 AM.. |

Excited for this build. I loved your last one, and I know you have some great taste, so this should be good.

I don't know if you meant it literally the way you said it, but don't cut the roof off and weld on a different roof. Just remove the skin and swap that. Here is some of the process when I did it on one of my hatches years and years ago.

Update:
So few things happening. Making more progress on wiring and as you can see the pile is getting bigger. ![]() ![]() Stripped back donor roof to make sure there wasnt anything hiding underneath all the paint. Few little dents but ill take care of that before it goes on. ![]() Been making a few mounts and a block off for the tunnel. Previous owner cut a huge amount out of the tunnel where the shifter so i want to make it look a bit nicer. ![]() Radiator mounts and cooler mounted ![]() Last of all, started making ways on the cage. This car will only see a halfcage with some door bars. ![]() |

Update:
Finally got a chance to pick the old roof off with the help of Michael. Will be able to finish the cage this week and weld it out before putting the new skin on. ![]() Next up was mounting the new power steer pump. Ended up going with Holden Astra electric one. Main reasons for doing this is to clean up the bay. ![]() ![]() Will drill out the parcel shelf sometime this week which will make it easier to fill. FInally to finish off the weekend, i picked up some bricks for cheap knowing that the rear on the passenger side one was melted. Plus side being all brackets etc were in tact. ![]() As you can see its pretty average. In postage one of the lenses broke due to poor packaging (was always gonna go clear covers) but the seller refunded me some money so all up these owe me $100. Picked up a broken brick headlight off a mate to use the back ![]() Cut out the old melted stuff and then sectioned out the donor and worked on making it fit. Once glued in it looked pretty good. ![]() More or less back together just need to paint the housings black ![]() ![]() |

Oh I don't meant the chrome parts. I mean the whole headlight without the reflectors in it. Just to get rid of the red paint and clean it up a bit if you get what I mean haha

Isn't this strictly a track car?
Lack of lighting from bricks won't matter if the car never sees the street...

It will see rego once done but street driving will be limited to wheel alignments/occasional meets.
Progress: Halfcage is all finished up. Opted to keep this pretty simple but still effective. ![]() ![]() Roof has been unpicked off the donor cut. What a gay job that is haha. Just need to clean up all the surfaces this week and then its ready to be put on for good. ![]() Also received a bunch of suspension parts this week. I decided with Gktech, main point being value for money. With the USD and Yen being the way it is a lot of other brands just put it into the too expensive category. Did a fair bit of research on these and they seem to check out so we'll soon see. - Bent castor arms - Bent toe arms - Camber Arms - Traction arms - Tie rod ends - Maxima tie rods - Subframe risers - Extended steering shaft spacer to suit relocated rack. - 326 power Coilovers ![]() Knuckle setup should be here within a couple of weeks then thats pretty much all the parts i need to get it rolling. Also wheels come in next week. Pretty keen to get the shitbox painted inside and rolling on all the fancy stuff. |
