The Big Catastrophe
Hmmmm for the last 3 days, there's been nothing but "THe BIG SNOW STORM" on the t.v. I mean I know you people got alot of snow, but they are making it out to be some great big event. It's funny, because whenever I hear someone talking about how much snow we have I say "Welcome to Canada!".
It seems like you guys down there are big babies. "oh we got a little bit of snow, it's horrible." That's what you get when you combine cold northern air and warm southern air. Anyways, just thought it was hilarious to hear it on the news, over and over again. THE BIG CATASTROPHE!

As a former resident of Upstate NY and a current resident of the DC Metro area, I'll explain.
The DC area is simply not prepared for heavy snowfall. Light snow happens; we get it on and off all winter. But 2 feet in a weekend simply overwhelms our snow removal capabilities. Our plows and salt trucks are pickups. Roadsides and ditches aren't wide or deep enough to handle the volume of snow. There's just no place for it all to go and no way to get it there. The snow removal capabilities of my tiny little backwoods upstate NY town were far superior to those of the heavily populated suburb where I live now. |

I Like the snow
I think that some people are making a big deal out of it, but it stems from some places not being ready for it. So, it's kinda justified. I myself have seen some pretty bad winters but could care less, my only concern is if my car will get more rusted or not since its not garaged.
And just to remind some people, it has snown far worse many times before most of us were alive. It'll happen again too and all we can do is hope for the city/state to be more prepared.
