Sr20 powered RX8 (pics heavy)
for the past year i have been swapping a s13 sr20 det engine and tranny into my 04 rx8. My reason for doing this was i love the car, but i do not love the rotary. my stock engine died at 76k and my warranty was gone at 60k. so instead of spending my money on somthing that was for sure going to break again, I bought a real motor and started tearing the car apart. Im getting very close to done now after alot of head scratching, re engineering, fabricating almost everything, and a real working persons budget . the car has a custom modified subfame and custom motor mounts in adition to moving the steering rack 4" forward to clear the crank pulley. the engine is basicly stock for now but i have alot of little goodies here and there. All charge pipes and full exhaust from the turbo back is 2.5" steel tubing and all made by me. i have a custom radiator from summit racing and a proform fan that flows 3300 cfm. I used a srt 4 intercooler that fits very nice up front. I have repaced all the gauges in the car to avoid going through the can bus system that controls all that stuff. I have a central 20 tuned ecu that i know nothing about piggybacked by a emanage blue that is linked to a eo1 boost controller. Im hopefully going to have the engine started within the week and after that i just have to save up some cash for a drive shaft. I have alot of pics and ill only post a few now because i just dont have the time to post up alot tonight. I hope you guys like the car and ill be sending in all the pics from here on out and a few veids when the car is finnaly driving again.

Just a super quick question....
If you moved the steering rack (and therefore the tie rods) 4" farther foward and obviously didnt move the wheel tire assembly by relocating the LCA etc, then what does this do for steering geometry? |

it didnt help the steering geometry but it didnt affect it to much. My biggest concern for putting this engine in was weight distribution. to my surprise after ditching alot of rotary related stuff and rebuilding the subframe i actually droped about 260 lbs off the front end. i had to lengthen the steering shaft to meet the rack but. over all i dont think im going to have that much of a problem. if i do i will just get some custom tie rods

ls1 would have had to force me to do like 3 universal joints in the steering shaft puttiing all kinds if slop in the steering. the jz is just damn heavy as hell and i my handling would suck balls. plus the inline six is just to long , i was considering a rb or sr20 and went with the sr because it was cheaper and alot easier to work with and kick ass power potential.

nice swap. I heard that mazda extended their warranty though. But you are way past warranty stuff now. good luck with it.

If you have any questions about the emanage hooked to E01, you can ask me.
I have been running this setup for over 2 years, tuned by me. If you need a Map, my current setup is HKS264Step1 Z32 Mafs 600cc Injectors 3" Inlet GT2871R .86 Stock Intake Mani Stock Exh Mani I run 1.49 Firmware on the Emanage and 1.12 Firmware on the Profec e01. I think that is all you need if we are close. Good luck.

Should have put an RB in if your already going through all that trouble.
Very unique, though. Well, if you think about it, so is a chick with a dick, but it's not really a good thing. Unless you're into that type of thing.... Just jerking your chain. Good job |

Using a Nissan engine does not qualify this as a Chat Topic.
