Import business
Hows it going guys. Zilvia has always been somewhat good to me so i figure it cant hurt to ask. I am looking to start my own business importing cars from Japan. I have my business plan and I want to do this right. Does anyone have any good advice? I know it's better to have a connection in japan I am currently working on that. It has been a dream of mine to always import cars from japan and make peoples dreams come true like my own with the gtr.

Have you ever owned / operated a business? I think if this is your first time out - working on such a heavily regulated industry is going to teach you a lot of hard lessons pretty quickly.
In my honest opinion, I would recommend you look elsewhere as a business, realistically speaking if you can't offer any advantage over the existing competitors out there what chance do you have in succeeding against already established, trusted, and more cost effective players in the market? If you're absolutely positive you want to go ahead with this - the best advice I can give you is - since this is a business of literally transporting goods from one place to another. You should draw out a flow chart of how your product (vehicles) goes from point A (Japan) to point B (your customer). Fill in all the steps, the people you'll need, the paperwork you're going to need to be VERY familiar with, the more specific you are the better. |

Importing / Freight Forwarding would be easier if you don't limit yourself to complete cars.
Parts, and consumer goods would be a better direction to focus your efforts.

if you don't have the capacity to bring in multiple cars, store them for months, and deal with an endless stream of tire-kickers who don't have the money, then you probably should reconsider.
might be better off just bringing in containers of front clips/wheels/aero/etc |

I knew some local importers and although it was nice being to go over there and find rare shit that supposed to be in Japan but somehow wound up here,
Its always a huge #@*# mess and the parts are very old now (20 years+) many cars look ragged or are overpriced. It feels like a dying trend based on out of production items although as they say, don't know until you try |

This seems terribly out of touch.
Got a GTR, want to 'mAkE DrEaMs cOmE TrUE', comes to a forum for advice. lol. It doesn't take a genius to check the prices on cars in Japan. They're all up, they're all nonsensical, and there are a ton of people with stock in warehouses that have far better connections than any of us can ever hope to have. Late to the game, and half-cocked.

if it were me trying to get in on the same, I would partner up with an established business and open a location alternate to their own...sell it as you were helping them expand and saving them money for the area, you know locals etc...
