cat thread. anybody have a Littermaid
i know plenty people manually comb litterboxes, but that's just not for me. i've spent a decade topping off the litterbox throughout the week, then throwing the whole mess in the creek behind my parents' house, and later the creek behind my house. but it's still a pain in the ass and i'm thinking about switching to a Littermaid. anybody have one? i've done a tiny amount of research and it seems it's a pretty common thing to build something for the Littermaid to sit on, then you can attach a trash bag to where the poop container is supposed to go, and you can go months without disposing of cat shit, you just have to top off the litter every week or so. sounds WONDERFUL, and you can get new Littermaids on Amazon for like 75.
yeah this is a thread about robot cat shit cleaners.

i trained my cat to shit either outside or in its poo box.
i remember when my neighbors German Shepard bit my dad on the side and it wasnt bad just like a little bruzzin. my dad is huge so he just laughed at it and kicked it back. later on, my cat fought that shit and it jumped on its face and started tearing its eyes up and shit!!! i ran out to my cats rescue but the dog was the one that needed help instead. haha. cats are fucking awesome!!! |

MEOW Power! I love'ith My Catz'ith to the Death'ith. (And Afterward as well) You think one cat is bad, try keeping up with 5. Anyway. You need one of those lift trays that u set in their PooBox. U just pick it up and the litter falls thru and you dump the tray in a bag. BAG GOES IN TRASH, NOT THE WATER SUPPLY <------ Ok? But anyway Catz RULE the EARTH. And that's the final say on that. I love my dog too. He was awesome as well. So are my Fish'ies. I LOVE U ALL ANIMALZZ. Better than the HuuMans by far. I talk to my cats so i am one of those crazy people. I am UnRepentent. My cats understand English. Thats what people fail to realize. Ha

I've got three and I feel the exact opposite about using an automated system to comb my litter box.
My cats are still kittens (kinda) and I'm still using the crystal litter rather than the sand litter which is more common. (It's better for their health while they're younger.) I prefer to be able manually scoop the litter and to examine the stool to make sure they're eating right and don't have any digestive issues. Gotta make sure they're healthy.

i've read bad things about the Littermaid basically grating cat shit instead of scooping it, but most of the problems seem to be with the metal cat sifter instead of the plastic one, and people using the wrong type of litter. other than that most people's complaints are how small and expensive the cat shit boxes are, but, you can strap a trash bag on it and be done with cat shit for literally months on end apparently... i really need to hear a personal review on the Littermaid, i want that thing bad. cat poop cat poop cat poop

use to own one, but we recently taught our cat to do his business in the toilet ... it leaves it open to random ass hole friends trying to blame the cat when they don't flush but we now make those friends go home when they have the bubble guts until they learn to flush.
You have to cut up an old standard litter box so it can hold litter but the toilet lid will still close, and once it is used regularly you take away the box and the cat will place his front and back paws on the lid and squate into the water... damn nifty. |

My cat is awesome, we got her when she was 2 months old. An hour after I brought her home I put her in the litterbox. She peed and she hasn't had any trouble at all with the potty thing.
Its the fucking dog that goes in there looking for snacks and leaves crunchy breaded cat shit around the house. And please don't put cat wastes into the creeks. Cat poo has parasites that have serious consequences when they get to the ocean.

I am going to get right on that whole "cat shitting in the toilet because it has a rigged litter box on it - but then you take it away" thing.

I am a cat lover too, I had the automatic littermaid before our house burned last jan 19th. If your cat is use to a normal litter box he will freak out out when he/she hears the fucking robo litter box, they are loud and the rake thing gets poo stuck between it. Its really not all that great , I personally will never spend the 100 bucks for one again. I now use a XL larger litter box with a jonny cat liner for the inside. I usually clean it everyday for 7 days and then after a week I pull it out tie it up and put in fresh sand.

We trained our cat to go outside. It basically involved removing his litter box, so he went outside instead. Only backfired once in all the years we had him, and he was ill, so it was inevitable anyway.

Littermaid's are stupid and rather annoying. They don't always catch everything and if your cat is alarmingly clean like mine is, you'll have to go back and scoop manually anyways just so he/she will go.
I had one for a few weeks and it just pissed me off. Pissed off my cat too. He hated it. It didn't scare him or anything cuz he's not scared of anything, but it was just never clean enough. He'd meow, knock stuff over, purposely kick litter out on the floor and generally just be an A-hole just to show how mad he was. I switched back to the regular box and he's been a happy camper ever since. cliffs - its not worth it. Its more mess than a regular litter box (well, if your cat is lovable a-hole like mine is. lol) |

Tried it and it worked half the time (Actually went through 3 of them). The motor crapped out on the first one within a couple weeks of owning it. Second one wouldn't complete the cycle. Third one worked as it should, but unless you have a littler that actually clumps up quickly you'll get an even bigger mess to clean up.
We switched over to clay sand (I think that's what it was called, just remember it was really fine) and it worked better with that. Though once in awhile we'd find broken up clumps and shit on the rakes. In the end it wasn't worth it for us either. We switched back to the traditional method. The best thing you can do is feed your cat(s) on a schedule. This regulates them and you find less to clean up.

I have the Littermaid pooper scooper.
Its DEFINITELY DEFINITELY DEFINITELY better than a traditional litterbox. But it NOT maintenance free. If it doesnt cycle shortly after the cat goes, the cats poo can clump up and stick to the bottom of the box. When this happens, the rake gets stuck. The litter box will back up and re-try three times, but in the end youll end up having to use a poop shovel to scrape it off the bottom of the box. On a scale of 1-10, 1 being a traditional litterbox, 10 being 100% maintenance free.. the Littermaid is probably a 6. Definite improvement, but not perfect. If you want something that is around 95% maintenance free, you want the Cat Genie. That runs around $300, but completely disposes of the catshit into your toilet, and all you have to do is flush it. Check out "Cat Genie" on youtube. Keep in mind though, the cat genie cycle is around 40 minutes long, and will run several times a day, using around 1000w of electricity during its cycle. Thats a considerable amount of electricity, but it is almost completely maintenance free. I'm going to try some different litters with my littermaid.. hopefully something that clumps before the waste reaches the bottom of the box and sticks to it. |

The GF came with a cat.
But me and "Bella" are homies. We have one of those ones that you roll over on its top, then back, and all the nasty stuff ends up in a try you pull out. Pretty easy, so i do it every other day, and it doesnt smell. |
