S13 track setup, cheap but fast... video included

550i vs 240sx, and others @ Wild Horse Pass East Track w/ProAutoSports - Phoenix, AZ

Video Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9bB6KL0Jzhk

Lately I have been watching a lot of Formula 1 and decided to set up my s13 for some grip and go road course racing! In the video, I am being chased by a 550i for about 7 minutes which made for some great footage as I work my way through the pack! It will make you ask yourself why you are drifting when you could be competing with 300-400hp cars on the track, all for just over $3k. Don't get me wrong, I love drifting, I used to do it everyday with this car as I have been through about 12 sets of rear stock tires and it has given me much better car control as well as predictability of the car itself. But, I had more fun than I could have ever imagined when I applied that car control to road racing while trying to keep the car just under the line of a drift or being able to save almost any spin. Check out the cost efficient build stats below and then watch the video. FYI the next ProAutoSports event in Arizona is Nov 1st & 2nd @ Wild Horse Pass - West, I would love to see a few more 240's out there to represent as I was the only one ....

My setup...

92 s13 coupe ($1300)

Engine

-STOCK, original KA24DE 150,000 miles, stock exhaust incl. header/cat/muffler (included in the price of the car)

-ebay intake ($40)

-used 370cc Q45 injectors (the purple ones) ($101.84)

-walbro 255lph fuel pump ($80)

-running 100% e85 fuel ($2.79/gal @ valero on scottsdale on 10/4)

-timing advanced to an optimized position for the e85 ($FREE.99)

Brakes

-ebay drilled/slotted rotors w/ceramic pads ($128 package)

-ebay stainless steel brakelines ($40)

Drivetrain

-stock 5 speed swap ($350 estimated total)

-"performance" clutch that I found at a junkyard, 6-puck unsprung ($25)

-welded s13 diff ($80, full pumpkin and kept the stock diff as backup)

Suspension

-Used front KYB AGX adjustable struts, found at junkyard ($50)

-New Autozone stock rear struts, although not optimal, new is better than blown ($cheap)

-Used megan racing lowering springs ($free.99 as the junkyard threw them in with the struts)

Body

-Stripped interior ($FREE.99)

-sound deadening removed with dry ice/chisel (almost $FREE.99)

-removed all HVAC components ($FREE.99)

-removed all automatic seat belt components ($FREE.99)

-pair of option kevlar bucket racing seats with brakets used ($200)

-5-point purple crow bolt in eye hook harnesses ($220, new)

-carbon fiber trunk w/sparco spring latches ($200)

Wheels/Tires

-CNT racing (bbs knockoff) 15 x 8 wheels w/ 95% tread 205/55R15 Dunlop Direzza tires ($350 total)

Changed all fluids (maybe $100 total)

Spent about another $200 on door panels, bulbs, window motor, door handles, etc...

Total Build Price w/full tank of e85 = $3364.84 ......lets go racing!
