Ugly as sin
Have automobile designers just given up on having a beautiful engine bay and decided to take the fail way out and just put fancy plastic covers over all the ugly?
I mean seriously just these pictures make me hate this car even more than I already do. Pictures of an ISF engine bay without the covers. The z32 engine bay doesn't even look that bad and that is horribly cluttered it's self! I hope not all cars go this route. Mercedes and BMW haven't taken to the same ghettoness of Lexus yet. Lets hope they keep it that way.

Its so weird to look at that and then look at my sr, you can spot everything on my motor immediately. And I love that look. ISF's are still sexy though. Even if they have an unneccesary amount of gears.

well if they're going to put covers on it, why bother? people that own those cars probably aren't going to be trying to show off their engines.

That's one way of looking at it. However, backyard mechanics and owners who do the work themselves are definitely on the way out due to the complexity, professional mechanics will probably get more work and be able to pay more.

i hate that engine cover crap too. they came up with something to hide the engine a long time ago, it's called a hood.
luckily, engine bay art isn't entirely dead. though it seems even ferrari isn't immune.

I am almost positive there could've been a better way around this.
Some other car companies have engine bays that aren't as cluttered Quote:

Fuck that. I'd rather buy a Kia before I let that happen. Cars being too complicated such as the ISF will not only make things harder for the weekend mechanic, but also the mom and pop style garages.

thast the whole point! no one will want to touch it/work on it. so who do you take it to? the dealer. business wise its a good idea. DIY wise its not. |

A classmate's SR20DET has one of the cleanest, clutter free engine bays I've seen in a long time. There's hardly anything in there. My WRX, on the other hand, is packed. I changed the spark plugs on a friend's 2.5RS, basically the same exact engine, but wow, there was a ton of room in there. I think you're onto something, in general terms.

I think theyre making cars now so that if something does go wrong with them...they have to take it to the shop. They are coming out with so many new bullshit features and horrible designs its stupid....its just sooo many more things that will brake. The quality has also gone downhill, so ive seen from working at toyota

/\/\/\ show me where the obdiii equipment is on that lexus.
even obdii equipment isn't that intrusive. the trend seems to be "hell, lets not bother routing anything in an attractive manner, lets just cover everything up with some plastic crap" |

it's probably easier to manufacture. instead of routing all that crap to a fuse/relay box, everything is on the engine and can go in as a unit. fewer connectors to deal with at the factory.

Me too, I wouldn't know where to begin. But you quoted my response to being a professional mechanic not the average owner.

I could name 20 cars off the top of my head from the late 80s to early 90's that I like.
I'm not interested in many new cars but I'm not the average consumer base automakers are aiming for so my opinion means jack shit.
