So i took apart my tein HE's to clean them and when I was looking at them I realized that they only have about 55mm of TOTAL front suspension travel. Not sure if this is normal but to me that seems like not a lot of shock travel. No wonder potholes feel so bad on them. They are probably hitting the bump stops hard.

looking back, i realize now that i could have gotten much more for the money i spent. i have tein HA's, and those plus the pillow mounts i could have gotten flt-a2's, just for the shock height adj makes them worth it nevermind the extra 2kg/mm. but even with ha's i feel bad for the car on the crappy roads in this state.
i think my fronts have even less than 55mm, but i wanted to be able to lower the car at least somewhat, thats the drawback of the ha's though |

Tein is ok for the price and for starting out, but honestly they have Bad valving.
JIC is a bit better than Tein and the Inverted Damper is a stronger design. For the Hardcore.... Kei Office, HKS spec-D, Kazama KZ-D, Silk Road, etc...

...
rating the qualities of different manufacture's against each other is practically pointless, they are all very similar and almost the same in make, feel, and can be adjusted acordingly, remember that just because you rode in one persons car with jic's and another with tein's dosent mean that the cars were adjusted and aligned corectly whatsoever.
The thing you have to look at is service. We at RPSport enjoy use of tein's the most because they have the best customer service and turnaround time on their rebuilds, far surpasing jic/tanabe. You're relationship with the manufacture is what i would base my purchase off of. The in's and out's can be figured by you a good representative of the company. Tein is located off the 605 in downey and Jic/Tanabe(zeil) is located in torrance off the 405.
