clutch issues? maybe
Hey Zilvians,
I did my 5 speed swap 2 weeks ago and everything was running fine till this morning I went to start the car and this horrifying knocking/rattling sound coming from what appears to sound like the back of the engine. Drove it home and on the way I noticed that when the clutch is engaged (pedal pushed in) the knocking goes away. and when I shift and release the clutch I can feel a grinding in the clutch pedal and there's a whining/buzzing sound (hard to describe) every time I shift. Which makes me believe that it has something to do with the clutch. Upon the swap I had new clutch (plate and disc) and obviously new pilot bushing. The only thing I did not replace was the throwout bearing on the input shaft which makes me wonder if thats my issue. So what could the sound be? Has this happened to anyone else? And most important how the hell do I fix this? |

If the sound goes away when clutched in, throw-out bearing. It's a possibility that the front plate of the transmission, the sleeve could've broke. That's happened to me twice. The plate it's easily replaceable if the sleeve is broken. The throw-out bearing is also easily replaceable. Either way, transmission has to come out. Let us know what things look like when you drop it.
