Z31 with 5k to spend??
I have a Z with 5k to spend on it. I'm thinking about keeping a stock bottom end and replacing them as they blow up just because you can pick up a whole vg30 motor from a junk yard for a couple hundred bucks.
Anyways, if you guys had 5k to spend..what would your build thread be. Give a new guy some advice. I'm thinking going with a gt3582r. I'm hoping to make at least 400 to the wheels. Let me know what needs to be done to run this kind of set up. I would really appreciate it, Thanks a lot! |

What cams do you recommend running? Maybe some like .260/.272 cams on what like a .420 lift?
What are some brands that make cams for my motor. I can't find to many and once I do. It's only information on them and I can't find an actual link to buy them. Will the internals of a turbo z32 work on a z31? Rx7 fc injectors are 550's I know they have a o ring shape to them, can I run NA/turbo injectors from them? Sorry I'm asking so many questions, I'm just burned out on reading every where to gain just a little knowledge on some information. |

cam brands are mostly regrinds, but they're colt, isky, schneider (crappy), or other custom re-grinders. specs will depend on your tolerance for idle lope and driveablility.
you can use z32 rods and pistons, or just pistons with the 87+ w-series rods with the wrist pin diameter bored out. you can even use a z32 crank, but that takes some doing and isn't really worth it for your (or most people's) goals. fc injectors will work, just be aware of the impedance of the injector vs your ecu type (redz31.net/fuel) and be sure to have them cleaned and flow tested before installation. most injectors that are for 11mm bores and are similar style to the z31's will work one way or another, best to do your own research there. all this being said, you'll be much happier with a car that has 250whp that handles like a dream vs something with a ton of power that can't go around a corner. coilovers are your best bet for a love affair with the car. Stance has what you need, contact touge factory for details. as jesse said, there are a number of people installing s13 rear subframes into their z31's. this is a pretty damn good mod, as z31 suspension aftermarket gear is prettymuch non existent. there's a great thread over on z31performance.com for this. best way to build old cars like this is: get running in oem fashion reliably. modify suspension, brakes and drivetrain. modify engine |
