Transmission and rear end torque ratings!
So I'm planning on building a S13 JDM coupe with a 4bt cummins motor in it. Well I need to know if the transmission and rear end will hold up to the close to 300+ ft/lbs of torque. By the way I will have a standard transmission of course. So if anybody knows the torque ratings of the stock transmission and rear end it would be appreciated. If need be I can always beef up the rear end and put a different tranny in it, which if anybody has any ideas, throw them at me. And the car will be used to pull my track car on a trailer and drift spares on the top so the tranny needs to be tough. Thanks in advanced.

You need to worry about the clutch not tranny. Yet the car itself isn't meant for towing so I can't comment on that aspect.
However my stock 5 speed tranny is holding 375ft lbs just fine... But stock open differential? I wouldn't tow anything on a trailer with that anyway. No sense in breaking things when you can swap them out for more appropriately heavy duty things like an LSD and stronger axles...

As long as you're not shocking the drivetrain the trans will be fine. No sticky dragstrip launches for you.
The rear diff is apparently indestructible. |
