a) spend your time and money vinyling your car b) leave it alone WHAT THE FUCK do you need to waste time and money on vinyl (or paint), when you can just leave it alone... faded, different colors, etc? putting vinyl over your busted up cars is like putting spray paint over a pile of shit, it doesnt cover up the scent nor does it cover up the fact, that shit is still shit. because you CANT. thats like making fun of a guy who's fucking a beautiful woman with a great personality. however, you sure can make fun of someone who's going out with a butt-ugly crackhead. Quote:
Now maybe this is just a hunch, but maybe a lot of people spend their time wrenching on their car so that its in an acceptable race condition before racing it. Again, just a hunch. Oh, and MAYBE these people have a second car that they drive... because they dont want to risk destroying their one and only daily driver. JUST A HUNCH. Jesus, for someone who's older than me you think like someone whos 16. |

I really don't get why you guys are hating on vinyl wrapped drift cars.
Why would you spend thousands on a paint job for each and every event when you could spend the cost of one paint job for a good quality roll of vinyl and be set for the season?

I am telling you its brand oriented. I have bought the solid color before and it stretches nothing like that, it does not even stretch better than the chrome or sparkle. I even went to a local place that has done 2 cup cars and a hand full of NHRA drag cars and they said its not the same material. The ebay stuff is for a plotter and street signs and such.

Ok, I think I'll jump in.
I think the powerpuff girls sparkle vinyl drift cars are fine... For drift cars. If your rocking a fucking blindingly reflective pink glitter s13 as a daily... Thats stupid. If for anything, its a major distraction to other drivers, and therefore a danger. Drifting is as much about show and flash as it is about skill. Kinda like a parade float. You could have the most technical system in your parade float, but if its just a dinosaur roaring, it'll get the occasional "oooh" but nothing much else compaired to the old 69 chevy truck underneath a paper machet replica of the Titanic with a band playing on top. I have been thinking about buying some white and black vinyl for my subaru. Why? Why not. Maybe dress it up as a cop car for the 417racing halloween cruise, maybe decide I want a black wrx for a few weeks, maybe I want it to look like I gathered parts from 3 wrecked subarus to make my 1. Maybe to protect my decent paint from the dirt roads and grass fields I am going to be tearing up once I get the oil leak fixed lol. To each his/her own. I can understand you stating your opinion on the whole thing ("its gay") or what ever. But don't be calling people names ("your gay") because you don't like it. Dif'rent strokes for dif'rent folks.

i think what you guys fail to understand is
that most of these so called DRIFT CARS are ahem, also being used on the street so then, its not a drift car. its a fucking shitty street car that is used competitively that equates to pretty much insta-fail, especially when you try to reason making something that *should* be purpose built, pretty. if cost is a concern, and drifting is its purpose.... ...then making it pink and glittery is just a complete waste of time. but whatever, it all makes us so UNIQUE, right? like imagine if every drift car had multi-colored fenders, doors and hood.. no one would be able to tell them apart. it would be like a demolition derby (which is what should happen to most of these clunkers anyway) |

While it is pretty well known that I don't care for drifting, or the excuses it allows some people to use for half assing their cars, allow me to explain it like this.
Pink and sparkly, just like a drift car. Does it take skill in either "sport"? Certainly Is it more about how you look while moving about the area being used than it is about speed or time? Yep Do most people make the generalization that pink and sparkly means "homosexual", no matter what the skil llevel involved is? Of course Does it become more difficult, and "exciting" when there is more than one individual participating at a time? So it would seem Do I watch either, or see any point in using either "sport" in advertisements? No, I don't So, in closing. Drifting is automotive figure skating. Those that enjoy it, good for them. Those who don't enjoy it, have other options to watch, like Hockey, or Rally. But you should expect a certain level of criticism when you run around in "body tight", brightly colored, sprakly costumes. After all, I expect criticism for the condition of my vehicle, and I take it in stride. Have a good night.

No I understand... And thats not very smart IMO. If you have a purpose built drift car that will never see the street except a quick run in your neighborhood (because hell if I had an old grand prix car, it'd see a quick run around the block lol) then by all means have at it. But the super shiny vinyl cant be the greatest thing to be behind, at 4 in the afternoon, with the sun beating down on it. Its a matter of being a courteous driver, and a safe one too. I'd be pissed if I went off the road because some fucking giant fishing lure blinded me in the freeway.
And thatguy, I'll agree with you... But you gotta remember, many of the people on this forum would rock hello kitty stickers and pink and purple wheels. Again, different strokes for different folks.

I didn't say anything about cheap or attention grabbing.
I'm speaking from a business perspective. If I had a purpose built motorsports car it would be wrapped(if rules allowed) in good quality vinyl. If my car gets rubbed or I back it into a wall or some other localized damage to the body all I have to do is cut out the torn up stuff and reapply. It would not require finding a paint booth and paying some one else to prep and paint it or match and blend the color. Now driving blinged out attention grabbing rice rocket on the street with the excuse that it is a drift car, fuck no. BUT flaming for pages about said rice rockets is equally a no.

A car being vinyled makes it a shitty street car that is used competitively? You struggle to realize maybe people like flashing/shinny/sparkly shit that you obviously do not. Maybe they actually like looking at a disco ball and jerking off for hours, who the fuck cares.
I liked the vinyl because it was entertaining to me, I don't think the color of my car made it a shitty car, just made me a little more ricer which is fine by me. Especially if you are what represents a non-ricer.

Its a fucking forum, its a place where people talk shit. Thats what the internet is for, joking around and talking shit. I didnt make fun of someone because they were husky, I made fun of them because they're wearing some skin-tight, trendy ass drift apparel. Personally, no one is exempt from being made fun of. If you're fat, skinny, ugly, beautiful... no one is exempt. We're all human and its all up for grabs. Its just like seeing pics of people posing in front of their car thinking they are cool. Who the fuck POSES in front of their car, get the fuck outta here. Quote:
suuuuure. just as you're entitled to do whatever you want to your car, we're all entitled to make fun of the stupid things you guys do. Its like people think they are exempt from being a part of society. Its like Paris Hilton can be on TV and people arent going to laugh at her stupidity. My friend Glenn says it best, dont want to hear the criticism... say nothing, be nothing. You guys with your my little pony, rainbow brite vinyl wraps gotta deal with the criticism........... mary. |

what ever lets you sleep at night man. the forum isn't a place where people talk shit. that is not what the internet is about. though i will agree that is what it turned into. and yes you fucking did make fun of some one because they were husky. i agree that no one is exempt from being made fun of, but some shit just doesn't need to be said. the real funny part is your putting a lot of effort into something you disagree with. i don't care that you don't like glittery bright vinyl, or loud 80's hair metal, or trendy wheels but with knock off kits.. i don't give a fuck what you think about me, but to talk shit about some one because of their weight which was not even part of discussion, to personally attack some one when all they did was contribute positively to a thread which topic you do not like. that shit is fucking pathetic and sad. all you are doing is turning into a troll. I know your better than this. You, YOU Mike Mammos are Mister Clearcorners. A lime light of the aftermarket industry, products you make I am saving up to purchase. But what ever right? You'll probably make fun of me and my car while still smiling and taking my money. That I'm fine with, just don't pretend you would do otherwise.

see, this is what i dont get.... when people go out of their way to make things personal
and when folks like you, step in to protect defend someone else who can clearly defend himself. first off, i accept everyone for who they are and dont look down upon anyone for how they look: good looking, ugly, fat, skinny, its ALL the same. i'll make fun of everyone because everyone has the option to make fun of someone back. but lets go past that, because it wasnt uncalled for. i didnt make fun of him for no reason......... .....i made fun of him because he's a large man in a small fucking trendy shirt. much like i would make fun of a white guy at a strip club wearing a fuckin hawaiian shirt, i'll gladly do the same with a big guy wearing a tight drift-shirt. second, lets talk about me and my products.. and why you feel i should be a voiceless salesman on this forum. im not, because im not selling here. the 20 dollars i make on some connectors or the sale of some 150 dollar headlights doesnt pay my bills, i do it straight out of enjoyment. with that said, im not on here as a salesman, im on here as an enthusiast who enjoys the forum. if you want or do not want to buy my products is solely your choice. there are plenty of other places to go, so if you hate me that much please, dont support me. i dont support german car manufacturers - i expect anyone with a brain to do the same if they dont like something. if its one thing i wont do, is smile in your face, give you a sales pitch, and tell you watcha wanna hear to make you happy and take your money. now, if you want a badassed product and dont mind hearing things as they are..... im your man. |

Sooooo,
I actually went figure skating the other week. Im not very good, but I enjoy it and learn quik. Just worked on my spins, walts lunge, mohawk and cross over. need to get my own skates. Quote:
does that make it ok? lol i know I always am against it on here, cause i dont want idiots doing it in neighbor hoods, in the day or tossing themselves off mountains. But I do have a bit of a rep as the guy that is always down....... Really, if you have nothing better to do, then move on please. And I HATE the stupid argument that if you dont have a ton of money for all brand name stuff you shouldn't be in motor sports. im glad NHRA and SCCA dont follow that and have different divisons for different cars. all the beautiful drift cars out there are great. But there drivers initially started with shitty beaters that were fucking ugly and they cut every corner for a few years while they learned. realalistically I am just following that path. Like I said, When I move into a place with a garage, I can finish this missile off and have a shell that i can strip down and build from scratch for the intent of drifting. it would be fucking stupid to build a $10,000 drift car without knowing how to drift or if you would like it, right??? |

Eric I have no problem with your car as a track car, it screams "look at me" and that is important. If you want pink sparkles on the street get that Mary Kay Cadillac pink pearl. It'll still be gay but it will be the best damn pink you can get.
Driving around with this shit like is some badge of honor just makes you look like a tool.
