I run 20/50 in my S13 240K miles and it runs fine. I'm also in FL.

Just a side note the tensioner could be what your hearing knocking. My old single cam knocked very loudly for years with no problem.

It sounds like its coming from the 3rd cylinder

did you drain it back to 4 quarts? or you just left 5.5 quarts in there? lol

check you oil filter,
I have seen defective fram and mobil 1 filters kill engines.... after an oil change
