Unhappy a short or something?

cars not starting, it turns over, fuel pump not running, got new relays for the pump and when i went to connect the negative on the battery it sparks and i heard a pop, so this means there is a short of some sort right? any ideas where to check first?

i have an s14 sr20 swap in a s13

Was this thing running before or a fresh swap? If you heard a pop, check around and find the blown fuse first.

seems like there is a short in the alternator, the fuse kept blowing and after disconnecting the power from the alt and putting the fuse in, all the interior accessories (radio, door chime and horn) all started working, so were thinking that the short in the alt is not completing the circuit to the egi relays in the fusebox, this make sense to anyone?
