RB Can an RB25DET head be resurfaced with cams installed?

Gonna get my head resurfaced but im wondering if i need to take it apart first? If i need to can anyone give some good pointers/instructions/walk through for assemble and reassembly? Thanks in advance!

Strip it. Last thing you want is stray metal shavings working their way into a cam journal or something. Besides, if you're getting it machined, might as well give it a complete overhaul.

I would at least have the guides(exhaust side) checked, valve seals replaced and the valve seats inspected. A quick vacuum on the ports with valves installed will tell you if you have s leaking seat or not.

It's kind of hard to fixture it flat to deck it with the cams and cam caps sticking out... usually a head can be decked with the valves and valve springs installed with a few exceptions such as the 4g63 head as their exhaust valves extend past the deck.

So, long story short take it apart, it's not hard to re-assemble.
