You need a flywheel spacer I believe.

i have a VQ30DET sitting in my coupe right now...350z transmission, JWT flywheel, RPS clutch. You will need a 180 tooth flywheel timing ring and a shortened shifter mount or a 350z nismo flywheel with the vq30det flex plate

Just letting you know i joined this forum to say Hi!
I saw your videos on YouTube the other week and absolutely loved your swap. So Awesome! Glad I found the build thread, will defiantly follow this! I’m ashamed to admit i started a VQ conversion 2 years ago but has been slow going. ie, super slow to nonexistent. I recently got some modervation and mocked up some pipes and hope to spend some more of my time working on her.. Was keeping the stock turbo, doing a 3.5’ exhaust Got 440cc s15 injectors Xf TB (like yours?) I modified for s13 TPS with a modified/low intake manafold Close rad setup and IC in the rad support panel. Not keeping the AC or anything like that as it’s not my daily and rarely gets driven. I’d love to pick your brain about all the VQ questions I have, if you wouldn’t mind swapping emails or something? |

Beautiful! Not sure how I missed this thread. I'm a huge VQ30DET fan. I always thought the it was the perfect engine for an S-chassis swap. If I ever get enough money/skills to do one, I certainly will. But in the meantime, I think I'll settle for a VG30ET powered Z31. So cheap its like cheating.

I'm super lazy with this build, so the blog/thread I started when i was keen and starting the builds have not been maintained. The inter-cooler is a generic 450 x 300 x 76mm with 3" Outlets. Its mounted up in the radiator support panel, with 3inch piping on the cold side and 2.5inch piping on the hot side. The radiator is a cheap aluminium one for a Holden commodore, i cant remember exactly what year, but i think they are all pretty generic though out 1990-2000. The filler has been removed, and one has been placed on the Vq's rad hard-line. it has the right location and size top hose, but the bottom hose is in the right location but is slightly larger, so some sort of adapter need to be made. Using this because of its dimentions, its actually pretty small comepared to a s13 radiator - its similar to a z32 radiator, but the z32 is taller and is to awkward to fit in the limited space. if you have any further questions, just ask - happy to talk vq all day, even thos ive never got one running hahaha. |

C'mon now, lets not thread jack.
OP, the car looks great, I love the VQ30 in my Maxima, it is a horse and sounds great NA. Your swap looks so factory, except for that big turbo with the heat wrap.

Time for an update from down under
Unfortunately Haltech ECU's wont work out of the box on a VQ30DET - easiest way to to resolve this issue is a custom 36-1 trigger wheel. So i had one machined up. Which ended up as this (interference fit on crank pulley). Then attached with M5 bolts, tooth removed and painted. And finally installed with raised sensor platforms. Stealth ECU installation... what stand alone. Will be run through the stock wiring loom And (after lots of late nights) its running. Few little jobs to be sorted including the Idle solenoid - 50/50 chance of wiring it the wrong way, it was the other way I'll also need to check trigger wheel offset (synchronise the ECU) and drop in a new battery, last 6 months sitting around hasn't been kind. Other than that it all seems to be working as it should -running on all 6 with the worlds shittiest fouled plugs.... Happy Days Also as part of the Haltech install i have also dropped in a flex fuel ethanol sensor - i'll be able to fuel this bad boy up on anything from pump premium unleaded to 100% ethanol and the ECU will adjust boost, timing and fuel maps to suit. Saving the planet with every top gear skid |

No Asiana Captain here LOL
Updates! Shift light mounted. Hidden away in one of the A/C dash vents. Super bright Cree LED so no issues with stealth install - it'll light up the windscreen at night its so bright. And after a bit of frigging around with the maps i took it for a ~1.5 hour road test this afternoon - laptop on the passenger seat and started to tune. Idle sorted, tad high (1000rpm) but its consistent with decent AFR's And a short video of in car. Few things to fix up, no tacho (wiring/software config - not high on priority list) and idle stepper motor hasn't been touched yet. More tuning this week |

so in every build i have seen everybody custom makes their intake plenums and does a crazy turbo set up, i am wanting to run stock turbo set up, i am wanting to run factory ecu and turbo set up, is there any clearance issues with turbo manifold "i know the rear exhaust that runs through the back of the motor will be an issue" i am wanting to keep it nice and simple with stock ecu and turbo.. is that possible? by the way it will be going into a usd s13 chassis.. thanks in advance
