DSG 240RS Updates...still a ways to go
I am almost finished with the exhaust. After some awesome modification of the footwell (the part that isn't needed ), the exhaust fits awesome and will have no clearance issues. There is still about a foot left to fabricate on the Ti portion. The footwell also has to be fabricated. The entire exhaust will have a 2700 degree carbon/inconel blanket around it so the heat shouldn't be much of an issue. The initial turbine outlet is 3" stainless, then expands up to 3.5" where the wastegate re-enters. I machined the .060 3.5" stainless down to 3.3 to fit the .020 titanium as a slip on fitting. The tubing I got is incredibly hard to weld being only .020 thick. It takes an insane amount of work to get it ready for welding as weld. I also only have .060 filler where .030 would be ideal. The stainless bellows is two layers of .010 so it is even harder to weld. It all came out well enough though. I modified the wastegate entry so both ports are completely seperate up until the WG piston. Braces are in order for both the wastegate and turbo. Everything is solid in the car so a combination of engine and chassis mounts will work. After the exhaust, sway bars will commence.

Moar pics! That thing looks sick. Can you get some from farther away so we can see the entire manifold and where it is coming out at?

Thanks guys. I finished it this morning. I have all the supplies to make a 3.5" titanium muffler, so if I get banzored at an event, I can slip that thing on there
Dude, what is that regamaster centerlock from? You can stop by anytime we are open. Alex's evo II lancer is up and running again as well. I drove it on the street the other day with the new turbo. Its absolutely retarded at 10 lbs of boost. I can't imagine it at 25. |

Mike,
I measured everything and it should fit but with my luck it probably won't. Who cares Bring the SVT down. We have been servicing a Focus in rally america. They are pretty cool. Dave, My feet hopefully won't be too toasty with the heatshielding How did the R32 get totalled? Damn. You better drop by when you are up here. DJButton, That would be from the RE Amemiya GT300 car. Damn, that is sick. The car won't be as fast as the AMS car...thats fine though. It will be a lot faster than before. |

It defintely is a cool thing to have up on the wall, for sure! Well, at least you guys are friendly. AMS, at least the guys with the time attack, were total jerks to us. If you guys bring it up for some test & tune in Loudon I'll have to come over.

Been working on the sway bars lately. I also worked on my new rear taillights! Check them out!
No. I wasn't serious. 60 shipped for instant composite molds. I am going to trim the inside of these for extra radiator heat exhaustion (and install some kind of small brake lights). I've been testing out some cheaper ways of vacuum bagging and they seem to work. Messing around with the exhaust a bit The first of four sway bars. Chromoly with different wall thicknesses and diameters for each. Thanks to Tim from TIP for really going crazy and working this all out on paper! The dampers are going out today to AMF in NH. The magnetic jig to ensure straightness. |
