New Memeber s14 sr20 build/Repair
Hey guys just thought it may be nice to do a build thread about my car because i have to do so much the PO didn't do or messed up!
Now for some backround: T28 Turbo Isis bottom mount manifold 3" exhaust (RSR, Megan, and Flowmaster) FMIC Aluminum Radiator (can't remember brand) Emusa Coilovers Now for the bad, when i first got it home it was running on 3 cylinders, and misfiring really badly. After finding out one of the exhaust manifold stud had been broken and the manifold wasn't sealing to the block. Took everything out, put new exhaust studs and new gasket because the one that was on there was broken. Only to find that the oil drain plug had been broken in half and then someone tried to weld it back together (not a good job at all restricted oil flow!) not to mention it wasn't the correct one for the turbo and didn't fit very well (gasket was also broken). There have been a number of other dumb things done with this conversion such as sensors not being grounded and also vacuum line coming from BOV was T'd into the fuel pressure line (thats a no no). Forgot to mention one of the silicone couplings to the FMIC was torn and had been wrapped with duct tape to fix it (oil was dripping out of this spot from oil blow by from turbo, just installed oil catch can and hopefully this solves the problem). Last the coil packs weren't even bolted to the intake (I'm pretty sure thats what keeps them in place and also grounds them) With all this being said this car is a work in progress. This car did come from Xceedspeed so you may have seen it. The body isn't in the best conditions and i will be working on that later. I don't want to bad talk anyone but this car looks to be as if this swap was rushed, this car also has a big sticker in the engine bay that says "3S" from 3S custom. I have posted some pics from the PO and the last pic is from 3S custom's website (3S Customs Current Projects) I'm pretty sure my car is in the lower left corner with a different engine (was told this engine came from Jason at 3S custom and sat for awhile b/c it was missing parts). With all this being said after slowly finding and fixing the problems i do love the car! Heres a video from the first day (if you go to about 20 seconds if you can see the studs that weren't there):https://www.dropbox.com/s/edyvkh3ibwginwm/VIDEO0033.mp4 I'll be honest not the best video just there to show where the bolt was missing The next thing i did was work on the oil return off the turbo, heres a pic of the original (right) with the saab t25 oil outlet (left). As you can see the original wasn't welded very well and restricted oil flow, however the saab was to long and not at the right angle and the hose would come in contact with the steering knuckle. Neither oil outlet worked and I just went with a AN-10 oil return (males) and a 45 degree AN to hose adapter (bought from Lanes) These two pieces together fixed me oil leak! Here are some pics of the car when i first got it Wish the PO hadn't painted the whole engine bay "Taco bell cup purple" and maybe something like black or white.... And the PO with the car Well this green bumper pissed me off and soon i want to paint the whole car but for now this green had to go away! So i took my bumper off! heres a good reason why i need to paint the whole car sometime... Like everyone knows theres no exact spray paint out there to match the white diamond paint on our cars, however i was able to find some "Dupi-color perfect match" that i think looks almost identical The exact name is BGMO138 Dover/Artic White Here's some shots after drying after 2 coats of primer, 2 coats of base, and 3 coats of clear. And some shots of it on the car (also with my new corner light from "Cody") and yes there is a flower instead of a grill... Here some close up pics for all you, and yes i know my bumper and fender aren't lining up 100% my inter cooler piping is to blame.... some random pics: Like knowing you can step into your engine bay with your engine! The last things i was having problems was with my HKS SSQV V2 BOV, it wasn't opening at all!! After alot of research i was able to find out the spring tension in mine was way to high! Since this is a real HKS and a newer one it didn't come with an adjustment screw. I was able to use a spring from "Orbital pop up sprinkler head" with little modification. It now opens much sooner and hold strong up to 12 PSI (thats all i'm running) almost eliminating my compressor surge! Heres just a quick vid after the spring modification! https://www.dropbox.com/s/uil6rdu9p4pzica/VIDEO0047.mp4 (Sorry for video quality) I know this isn't is a crazy build thread but more of a repair thread, I made this for anyone who was interested and also for myself so i can see the progress i have made and not get discouraged lol. I hope you all enjoyed!! And i will continue to update with the progress i am making! Thanks Dan |
