i realized it was pointless

and put it back to normal

i feel better about life now

Mine is like that because of the fat inlet & return water hose to/from my t25, blocking the hood, which is why my latch just won't catch. so i put some washers there, reason why mine looks like that, but now my latch catches, so my hood stays on my car...

i dont' know why some do this for look.... that is if the owner of the car actually did do this for look...

I met a guy with an SRT-4 at HIN two years ago. I noticed that his carbon fiber hood had a vent in the very back of the hood. I've never seen that before so I asked him what the design concept was about.

He was sponsored by a carbon fiber company up in B.C. and explained that they've been testing a lot of design concepts out on the track (aka aero, light weight, blah blah)

His SRT-4 was specifically built for track purposes. They were concerned about operating engine temperature. The company heard about the small hood gap modification drifters use. Apparently allowing high airflow throughout the entire engine bay contributes to a lower operating temp.

They tested the hood out on the track and found that it dropped the operating temperature 8 degrees. He stated that it maybe a little difference, but every detail counts.

Come to think of it, why would you want to seal your engine bay and not allow air flow? That would be very bad, kinda like stuffing your face under a heater blanket for an hour... You need to break and stay kool. Why not allow air to flow in, through the intercooler / rad, past the engine and out the back?

Me and g6civcx pretty much said what the hood dose.

Do you guys still need a blue print and a video to show how it works?!

If you want more info on how it works, just go talk to a muscle car guy. Ask them what a "Cowl Hood" is for.

When you raise the hood like that, you create an opening for air to go through. Remember that air is lazy, and tends to go from areas of high pressure to areas of low pressure.

The area around the firewall is a low pressure area because the engine and vehicle body block most of the airflow.

So when you raise the hood like that, air will tend to go into the engine bay from above, and not the way you think it would go. Read up on cowl induction to find out more.

But again, this is a generalization and may not be true without testing. The shape of the windshield and vehicle play a large role.

i wonder if there is significant affects on the whole overal aerodynamics of the car (i.e. excessive drag at high speed) etc..
I dont have it raise anymore.

I think BMW hit the nail with thier hood vents on the E46 and others. someone should produce a simular universal "bolt-on" vent

i have it becuase supposedly it makes your car run cooler and i dont like overheating. i was gonna undo it for the next event and see if i could even tell a difference (probably not with stock temp gauge) but i guess if those guys in the srt4 noticed 8 degrees then i wont even bother.

stock temp gauge is rock solid between 150 and 220, so no you wont.

The spacers help while your car is stopped.
Also you'll hear more engine noise / compressor chatter.
If thats worth it to you then eat your heart out.

People in japan do it so you don't notice how crappy their FG fenders/hood fits but people think its a mod.

I'd do it with a vented hood just for added cheeseball factor, but spacing an OEM hood is about as gay as lazy eye on a stock 240.

D-Max and Origin have vents back in the air that should be stagnated/high pressure.
