How to: Autodim rearview Mirror

I was looking for a replacement for my broken 240sx rearview mirror and found that the Infiniti I30 mirror has the exact same mounting holes, along with autodim . This should work for s13's and s14's, and other model nissans. (I got the inspiration for this idea from here: http://sl-i.net/FORUM/viewtopic.php?f=39&t=23165)

The rearview mirror looks like this:

I highly recommend soldering your connections and using shrink tubing, as electrical tape will melt and become a sticky mess after a few summer days.

It is easy to wire up, but requires removing the A-pillar, if you don't want the autodim unit to be always on. Otherwise, if you want to do it the cheap way, just wire it to the map lights.

When you take the cover off the unit, you will find that it has four wires:

The black wire is ground, the red/green is power to the autodim unit, and the green/blue and red/blue wires are for illuminating the Day/Auto Buttons. I ran wires under the headliner and connected ground to the map lights, and I soldered all the power wires together to a single wire and ran it under the headliner and down the a-pillar to the parking switch. (Red/Blue on the back of the parking switch).

You will need to run the wires to the right so it clears the mount

Finished product:

This is quite brilliant!
Just one question? Does it vibrate all over the place?, like the oem ones?
If this is more sturdy ill deffinetly be doing this!

It is definitely sturdier than the stock mirror.. my stock one would vibrate all over the place when I downshifted, but now the vibration is barely noticeable

You're welcome , and IMO I would swap with factory tinted maxima lenses (like this guy did) instead of using blue tint since some of them also come with heated mirrors too

This is definitely a good idea, I have to visit this side of the forum more often.

One question, did you write this tutorial or was it taken from somewhere else?

Neat install. Anyone know if that can be done with the compass version mirrors as well?

Probably, as long as the mounting holes are the same, it can be done. I'll let you guys know if I do find a version with compass/homelink that has the same mounting holes.

Just did this on my S13. Initially the lights behind the "AUTO" and "DAY" weren't lighting up for me. The green wire that comes straight out of the unit, before the pigtail connection, needs to be grounded along with black for those to work, in my case.

Thanks for the write up though!
