....as a second car. It has the best of all worlds, lightweight, convertable, rear-wheel drive, and huge aftermarket. Plus, I've seen the crazy things done to them... Monster Miata which has a Ford 5.0 motor and a local guy with a 13B turbo in his.

Go for it. Miata's are cool.
I'd only get one as a second car, though. My 240 is small enough as it is, I couldn't imagine having to deal with a tiny two seater when I needed to haul stuff/people around.
A good friend of mine has one and I've autox'd it before...almost like driving a big go-kart. I myself plan on turning one into a Spec Miata sometime down the road.

miata's are fun cars. a little bit too much body roll for most people's taste, but that can be cured with a few chassis upgrades. still fun as hell

i agree. Miatas are great cars even though they are convertible. just get a nice roll bar, stiffen up the suspension, and you have yourself a go-kart with just enough power to scoot around the cones and stay under control. miatas are major auto-X ass kickers.

For some reason I see loads of done up Miatas around my area, anyone else from chicago notice this? I have seen some really nice Miatas though, I just don't like how they are so freakin small, but never driven one before.

There are a few of us looking to get Miatas. I should be getting mine in the next couple of months. It is an awesome little car, if you can put up w/ the size.

My boss has a Miata and it's a lot of fun when I get to take it out to run errands. Your right though, stock it has quite a bit of body roll, but I have seen some really nice ones that ride like they are on rails.

It's funny to hear what other people say about it's impracticality of being a small car... but it'll be a second car. The suspension won't worry me much, I've found tons of sus. parts for it including a whole bunch of Racing Beat stuff. It should be much more fun after the mods including the GReddy turbo kit.

when i buy another new car, it will be a new Z and when i buy a used car to replace my 240sx, should it be totalled somehow, i will get a miata.

can you get hardtops for them? turbo kits and superchargers seem easier to come by. and suspension of course. it would be my weekend hill carver (no canyons here).

Yes, they make hardtops for them. I've been infected with all of the Miata sites that carry everything for the car. It's unreal, only if my ex-civic h/b was rwd, the 240sx wouldn't ever have seen a day in my driveway. I wanted to get a new Miata before I bought the 240,... it's that I didn't want a car payment. But of course, I didn't think to look in the used market!

yes, hardtops are a dealer available part.

there are FI kits available. however, i would first advise to drive the car for a while and become comfortable with it before boosting. that being said, flying miatas makes several kits for 89-97 1.6 & 1.8's, and 99-up 1.8's. personally, i would go for a 1.8 BEFORE '99 to save the most money.

here's an anecdote from a turbo miata owner:

Ferrari 348 Spyder: $117,400.
2002 Mazda Miata LS: $27,000.
FM II turbo system and related hardware: $6,000.

Italian supercar can't outrun a Miata: priceless.

For those with too much money, there are exotic supercars.
The look on the Ferrari driver's face as he realizes his exotic For the rest of us, there's boost.
Thanks guys
