!- S14 Sr Swap Questions -!
Whats up guys...this is my first post on zilvia...so take it easy on this .
First off a little bit about the chassis so far; I have a 95 S14 SE w/ JDM Kouki Front...10/8 Tein HE's...ES TC rod bushings...SPL Parts Subframe Spacers...30mm Alum. Z's. w/ stainless-steel lines f+r. Unfortunately it's an automatic . Yes...I know...I know...i'll convert to 5spd when i go SR...but I only paid $2,600 (USD)for a 95 s14 SE Zenki w/only 110,000k on it and then i converted it to kouki w/all Brand NEW OEM Parts. The Car Should've been painted by now...but winter came to fast an bondo work in winter time (50 F) is bad. It will be gettin painted Nissan Murano Platinum Gray W/a Black Top and a Carbon Hood (i got a BNIB Fiber Images OEM Style Hood FOR FREE) I've only had this car for 4 Months. I NEED TO GET RID OF MY GAY ASS OFFSET WITH SOME NEW WHEELS!!! Goals : I'm itchin to do an SR Swap on my car, within in the next 2-3 months. My realistic power goals would be from 285 - 315 rwhp. To achieve that i plan on using FMIC, GT28R (S15 Turbo), Z MAF, 550's, and SAFC. My Dilema: Since this is going to be my daily driver and I live in a fuckin desert (PALMDALE, CA) i wanna be able to keep my A/C. I'm just havin a hard time deciding on which powerplant i should run...S13 BlackTop or S14 NotchTop? Will my s14 A/C compressor Bolt up to the S13 SR? Many of you guys are probably askin why does this guy wanna run an s13 motor...first off it's a little cheaper...and since i'm a mechanic i'm gonna overhaul what ever motor i get so the money saved on the moter goes to overhaul it... Second - Tuning w/ SAFC on an engine that doesn't have VTC (The S14 motor) is alot easier. Well like i said i'm a so take it easy on me... Any help would be greatly appreciated!!! Just a look into my trunk... |

yes the a/c will work.(at least my mechanic made it work). If you are going to overhaul the engine and get a s15 turbo anyways, why would you want to get and s14 engine???? s13 also has a lot more aftermarket from what i have seen, will be cheaper, and will reliably put you in your horsepower range you are looking for.

tein HE's are 8/6 spring rate...
I would go for the s14sr, already has a t28turbo, and you will like the added low end due to vtc.

i was having same problem earlyer wether i wanted to get s13 or s14 sr for my kouki and s14 is by far best choice. Wiring is just such a headace with s13. you need to reqire wipers and bunch of other crap b/c on s14 they are part of the engine harness and s13 they are not.
S14 is teh way to go...or KAT which is what i am feeling like |

I think in S13's, the wiper motor, and defrost etc are separated from the main engine harness. S13 ecu does not control them, so if u go s14 sr in s13 chassis u just gotta wire up the engine harness.

HE's can be upgraded to a 10/8 Spring Rate...These Coilovers were on Casper Canul's S14 before he switched to JIC...Thanks For All The Replies...can someone please elaborate on the A/C situation?

my advice, slow down on the build and get a daily beater, maybe even a honda =)
if unfamiliar get phase2motortrend to do wiring mechanically u can fit the compressor from ka on with fabbing,or use the sr compressor and recharge the freeon. |

Well if I remember rite, you can keep your AC by using the KA compressor with all the lines. The KA compressor bracket will line up with 2 out 3 holes on the SR block. The down side is can you really pull the KA out and stick the SR back with out damaging the AC lines or letting it leak out? Thats the reason most people opt out of their AC cuz its damn near impossible to do a swap with the AC shits on the way. If you opt with using the SR compressor, your gonna have to fabricate custom AC lines and intergrate it with the KA lines.
As far as your HP goal, 350 whp is attainable stock internals with any of the SRs. I got a 97 and i opt with a S13 blacktop. Reasons: engine was cheaper, can run more aggressive cams *HKS Step2s 272s* plus i heard some horrible stories bout people breaking the VTC and paying an arm/leg to replace it. For as much as you'd pay more for a S14 engine, you can put that into better fuel/engine management *POWER FC* |

Another vote for an S13 engine...there are plenty people out there who can do the wiring harness mods for you, if you'd like. I used to run an S15 turbo & it spooled SO nice, however I wasn't able to top 300 Hp even with HKS 264 cams...get a .64 AR 2871R and you'll have the same kind of spool with 350Hp capability. The price isn't too much more either. Best of luck!

yea i'm in the process of ripping my zenki 95 apart to put in a S13 SR. i've heard you do have to take the AC off to take the KA out. wondering if i can even do this without having to leak the AC....do i need someone professional to do it??
this is how far i'm along... |

Wow...i didn't think i would get so many positive replies...everyone has given me alot of advice...As for the wiring...that's goin to be the easiet part for me...i'm a custom car audio fabricator...so wiring is cake...it's a funny thing that i'm think about rebuildin an sr...because my friends jus began havin rod knock as of yesterday...350 for an s13 SR (RT) with rod knock...also when he bought his motor his cam broke...but after that he sent his head to a machine shop for complete top end rebuild(Valve guides...seals....retainers...new valve seats...pressure tested....hmm...should i do it?
