Wow, those Revolts look fucking awful.

The whole reason the Battle was cool is because it was really just a CST Hyper Zero. Basically the cheapest semi-JDM wheel you can get your hands on through Discount tire under MB. Not to mention the design is pretty universal, simple multi-spoke with mild concave.

I spoke with a Discount rep last week because I had been waiting for 18's the come back in stock.

Here's what I learned quoted from the YDIW thread-

Quote:

Apparently the company that had the rights to that design was JD Co. and they supplied the wheels to Discount.

JD Co. recently was sold to TSW as of late last year, but they have yet to do anything with the molds.

The rep said we may see them again with TSW center caps fall of 2018, or we might never see them again.

I personally think it would be insane if they didn't keep producing these. They are basically treated as a consumable by the drift community and I imaging specific sizes sell very well.

Here's hoping...
So unless TSW brings it back, they gone.

Ayeee.... If TSW brings them back that would be cool. TSW has some cool finishes I'd love to see on Battles.

You mean, they got the mold or model from CST. They didn't source the actual wheels from CST.

These remind me more of the other A-tech wheels but with recessed spokes

But not bad for $97/ea

I wonder how long it would take for someone to pinstripe the recessed edges to match the side vents on their 3DStar kits. Lol

Liking the design is irrelevant.

Sooo in other cheap bastard wheel news.. I don't know who XXRs got designing for them now, but looks like they're finally trying to get their shit together... Unless this is a rep of some wheel I don't recognize. Under $200ea for 18x9.5+20 & 18x10+20. $126ea if you preorder the NLMotoring exclusive all gloss black ones.

Lots of companies start out making shit products for cheap to get some capital together before becoming original and producing good parts. Might take a few years before the lose the synonymity with shit.

they just need to drop the fake rivet crap. it looks so tackey and ive seen some fall out, which makes it even worse.

some pull them all out and just leave the holes. I remember seeing someone fill the holes in with bondo or something cause he didn't like the holes. LOL

while we are talking about XXR, any of you seen the forged wheel they have now? wonder if they are going to keep pushing into that territory. I mean their slogan has something to do with lightweight wheels. none of their cast wheels are 'lightweight'.

Yeah, their forged 527Fs... Not my cup of tea, but also not the worst I've seen.

18x10+25 weighs 20.1lbs. Not bad. But it's $350/ea+ for some XXRs... I dunno about all that now...

They also got the 527D. No fake rivets there. Not forged, 24.3lbs. Not terrible for an 18.10.5 wheel.

interesting, that isn't all that bad for a cast wheel. they must have changed some of their mfg practices to lower the weight.

I think their forged stuff isn't popular because people are reluctant to spend that sort of coin on someone who is just gaining traction into the forged market. I think I would still rather buy some cast rays wheels over the forged XXR stuff (im biased as that is what I currently have). XXR has got to start somewhere though if they want to break into the forged market.

so, I gotta ask, does the forged wheel by XXR get to skirt around all the negative stuff associated with their other wheels because theyre forged? LOL

I dunno if they changed anything about their manufacturing process. It might just be the wheel design. I mean, it's derived from the older 527 wheel, which even though it wasn't forged was their lightest wheel by far. I think the 18x9.75 weighed 23.6lbs. So they just added .75 more width, changed the offset/backspacing to give it a big lip and BOOM, 24.3lbs wheel.

I also don't think they're skirting anything negative about their rep. Tons of JDM purists remain staunchly against them and offering a forged wheel ain't really changing their minds. But even if they do grow in popularity, it'll still be like looking at the success of once-trash brands like ISIS/ISR, Megan, CXRacing, ect.

I dunno. I don't use them. But they've their way onto some high profile builds, so I guess they've got a little notoriety now and are shaking off their past image.

Throwing product at a "sponsored" build does not increase legitimacy.

"legitimacy" is subject. these dumbass 16-20 year olds getting their first 240s and seeing their "role models" rocking these names, they're gonna associate that with quality. again there's power in advertising when you hear about it left and right.

although, megan and CXracing i'd NEEEEEVER touch, the ISR brand is in every gaw damn youtuber build, so after a while, it gets you thinking, "ehhh i might buy those suspension arms for my shitty s13."

good point. ive seen a couple of VIP style builds recently with megan suspension arms and such and its always struck me as odd when you buy super expensive wheels/aero and go cheap on the suspension bits. i believe the owner of stance nation even uses megan stuff on his personal builds; which surprises me, given how much legit stuff they push/sell (like 326).

BATTLES ARE COMING BACK. (this quote is directly pulled from an Americas tire spokesman)

Quote:
I found out last week that the following Battle SKU's should be available within the next couple months, albeit not in black.

18x9.5 5-114.3 ET+15 (gunmetal, bronze)
18x9.5 5-114.3 ET+23 (gunmetal)

17-inch sizes will be offered as well, but again only in bronze and gunmetal finishes.

nice! im going to order a set for spares when my rays need to have their tires flipped. its always nice to have same spec wheels as backups (versus the sunk ass stock wheels that I can no longer use thanks to ARP extended studs).

ive always liked the battles when they are chromed/polished. maybe ill go that route. decisions decisions.
