My motivation comes from whatever I happen to be thinking about during the day. Usually it's girls, drifting, making money.

For some odd reason, I get really motivated when I drink energy drinks. Like of course they are supposed to give you energy yeah I know, but it not only gives me energy in my body but my mind too. It's like I have my own SR20 running in my head on low boost, then I drink energy drink and it turns up the boost in my head and tweaking with my ECU.

From the looks of it, I pretty much live for cars

Yes, that is how it works. If someone dies in your family, you are sad, and your brain releases this chemical. When you suffer from depression these chemicals are released even when there is no reason for it (no depressive event at all).

Depression-------------------Neutral---------------------Manic

That is the inbalance. Even in normal situtions you are depressed. There is no neutral. You can also be on the other end of the spectrum and have an excess release of your bodies natural dopeamine (or have high sensitivity to your bodies production of it).

so then what...diagnose mild doses of E? lol. Is it genetic? Or have they not found a root for this? maybe excessive amounts of "bad times" result in a natural release of this depression chemical? Like you body is preparing for it?

Yes, it can be genetic in some cases but biological factors play a larger role. Thats an interesting theory, but it may only be true for a very very very small percentage. I've heard something similar when covering drug addictions.

If you are a drug addict that always takes a hit in the same room, your body will release certain chemicals to protect itself (tolerance) when you enter the room. This is because it has associated that room with you're taking a hit.

A study was done where rats where given dope over and over in the same room for a period of weeks. Then half the group was taken to a different room. Both groups where given a lethal dose and the ones that where moved all died. Those that stayed in the same room did not.

It depends really how you put it in to context.
Obviously you'll have "todays" satisfaction, you NEED it! lol

But what I mean is that when you think about your future and how you want it, you'll set goals for yourself and live towards it. I know a ton of people who have no initiative in their life and only live for "today" and have sense of direction. No idea where they want to go in life, no idea how they're going to move on in life, they just sit at home and do nothing. No job, no school, nothing.

When I say "live for tomorrow" I mean your future. Live as if you want to make something out of yourself for your future. For you kids, your grand kids, the people you care about. If you've got no idea where you want to go or some sort of goal how do you plan to gain satisfaction?

You don't get it. It has nothing whatsoever to do with context. If you always live for tomorrow it will literally never come.

You're assuming that isn't their ultimate goal. Doing nothing may be their dream and they're living it everyday.

I don't have kids or grand kids, but the people that care about me should want me to do whatever it is that makes me happy.

If I spent my whole life in the corporate grind for my (possible) son and he ends up resenting me and looking up to Kurt Cobain what satisfaction would I receive?

Again, you're assuming 'going somewhere' and goals are what keep people happy.

I had a dream once that my dad told me the meaning of life and it makes just way too much sense. He said that every man was put on this earth to do one thing and one thing only- to let your son bury you when you die. Kinda thought about it and I've been living by that and telling people that. "son buries father". If it doesn't make sense to you then think why. Would you rather have it the other way around? Or would you not want your kin to be there and take care of your remains? All that shit we do in our lives doesn't mean a single thing.

Fucking corny, I know

the thought that life just cycles and man lives and dies, kinda makes me depressed.. I feel every man and women is put on this world to do something important/big. Some people dont make shit out of their lives, others become scum, some are so so, and then there are others who really stand out and make a difference, like inventors, entertainers, doctors *people who help each other, or make people feel good*.

Having no money right now really limits what I can do, im back in school. But once i get my career cracking, soo much I want to do on the side to accomplish.

2pac said in one of his songs Words to my first born : "Talk to your seeds n*gga, who was you? How did you throw it down?" Pretty much meaning that you would want something to tell your kids and grandchildren about. Not something like "dad was a bum, lived a borring life working in a factory, married a average women/first girl that came along, had kids, worked his whole life to support those kids, didnt really give them much, etc"...

respectfully, i dissagree. context has everything to do with it. i want an E46 M3 like you would not believe. i could probably afford it today if i really tried. but that would leave me with nothing else but a damn depreciating piece of tin. instead, i work my ass off now, so that i can afford it comfortably a few years down the road. my goals are not at all unrealistic, and i think that is what keeps people going. realistic goals that are within reach, or can be obtained easily [relatively]. not sitting around daydreaming all the time. thinking about marrying a model and driving a lambo. who the hell knows, it could happen i suppose. but if you're realistic about shit, and content with realistic shit, you will be satisfied with yourself. i personally dont like the idea of "living for today." planning for the future is the motto in my family these days, and i know that learning it young is important (to me anyways). for example, 3 years ago i opened a Roth IRA. while not much, i've managed to put away $1k each year so far. i've trained myself to set aside a little bit of money each month, and at the end of the year, i send in my check. while it would be fun to go out and blow that cash on some car parts, or run up a few bar tabs, im much more satisfied knowing that some day, i will be able to retire comfortably. when i do manage to get a real job, i plan on sitting down with my financial guy and restructuring my plan for retirement. and while the desire for cars and toys will be great, i think i will be mature enough to set my priorities where they need to be. thats just my mentality though. if you want to go out and "live for today," than you're certainly more than welcome to entertain that lifestyle. it has zero effect on me. but there is little need to discount anyone elses thoughts on the matter.

I hear you on all this.
Im 33.
My life is half over as far as im concerned.
Pretty depressing.
But I will hopefully get further and figure more of myself out next time around.
And more the time after that, and so on.
I really hope to get myself a status and money position in the world where i can influence humanity.

Not being able to do those things and not being able to have the creativity i want get me down and unmotivated.
Also our general lack of time here really depresses me.
i will never know all the stuff i wanna know and never find all the answers I want.

I should prolly look into some sort of eastern religion or some shit.

Sorry Bubbles, I think I need to word it differently.

By living for "tomorrow" you'll set yourself a goal today. So when tomorrow comes you've now reached that goal you made yesterday, thus repeating the process if you choose for tomorrow once again.

When you have little goals like that you've got things to look forward to rather than not having a future and sitting at home on the couch all day doing nothing with your life. Yes your right, some people do enjoy sitting at home on their ass while having nothing to work for, pay for...etc, however I am not like that. Yes it's opinionated, but I'm sure majority of the beings you can associate yourself with have some sort of initiative for themselves no? Personally I like knowing not only have I succeeded but my friends and the people I care about will be right next to me with the same perspective, succession and satisfaction.

Obviously everyone's goals are different and the way they go upon them is different but overall we're all looking for the same thing. Gratitude and satisfaction from ourselves and others.

I'm sure we can all agree that the simple fact of knowing we're trying and/or doing something with our lives is a great feeling, right?

many people do that. i know engineering students, like my brother, who went to school at 8am and left at 12am most of the time. i'm sure it's tough for other serious majors out there like science majors, masters, and phd programs.

where do you find time to study though? 10hrs work, 3 hrs lectures, 6hrs of sleep or so, and you only have 5 hrs to bullshit (relax), run errands, and study.

i hate when its cold, dark, and raining outside. makes me not even want to get something to eat even when i'm hungry.

i heard something about this from an article i read about suicide victims and survivors. a father, who's son shot himself, mentioned that he told his son "one day you'll have to bury me" but the father never expected that he'll be the one burying his son after he took his own life.

you know, i think the same way, but it's really hard to save everything. there's so much temptation out there to spend money. i've saved a bit over the last year or so, but not as much as i would have liked and i recently went on a spending spree since black friday.

one of my bosses, who probably makes over 100k+/year, lives so frugally (eats fastfood/frozen food for lunch/dinner, buys cheap gas, has a practical car (camry), doesn't buy many things like electronics or cloths, even buys generic soda instead of coca cola, etc), and he's almost 50. i don't know how i would be able to live life like that for so many years, but i guess you can keep telling yourself that many people in 3rd world countries have it worst and you are very lucky.

Pretty depressing.
But I will hopefully get further and figure more of myself out next time around.
And more the time after that, and so on.
that happens when you get older. i'm years younger, but i already know the feeling. i pretty much plan to work for the next 40-50 years, until i'm 65-70, retire and do what i want for the 10 years or so until i'm 75-80, and then prepare for death when i'm near 80, because that's the age men usually die at.

all the while, trying to do the little things along the 40-50 years of working to have a fullfilling life. i don't have time to waste, before i know it, i'll be at retirement, so i have to accomplish the little goals i have while working. maybe when i'm 65-70 i'll travel the world, but some people say when you're that old, it makes it hard to travel.

same thing = some sort of motivation. now you're just nitpicking, and not doing a very good job of it.

Right, but you're assuming jobs, kids, spouse, cars, houses, etc.......are everyone's motivation, goals, and satisfaction.

It just isn't true.

Without a doubt, however I'm doing an excellent job at it.

Without a doubt, however I'm doing an excellent job at it.

No I'm assuming some sort of action or result are everyone's motivation, goals, and satisfaction.

Again, everyone is different and has different ways of gaining their satisfaction.
