Custom LED Tail Lights? Help with dimming!

Hey guys! I'm planning out making some custom LED tail lights and I was wondering what would be the best/safest way to have the parking/brake lights dim when not being used.
I will be using the little $5 pack of 100 LEDs from eBay just to create a prototype before I spend a bit of money. Are there any type of LEDs that would be better than the others?
Any help is appreciated, thanks a lot!

there are several ways to do it, oem bulbs used dual filament so you do have signal power to run a dual intensity LED setup.

This might help you get started. (http://www.ehow.com/how_7770218_make...led-light.html)

You'll need quality LEDs, good wiring/soldering, resistors, and most likely some relays to achieve the dual intensity effect. Shouldn't be too hard overall, hardest part is usually making them LOOK good. Most DIY tail projects end up looking like shit

i agree

just remember you'll most likely spend more in time, money and mistakes before even getting remotely close to achieving the level of perfection of the aforementioned

you guys DO realize that there is such a thing as, gasp, OTHER VENDORS

Resistors or pulse width modulation are the way to go
