T28 turbo upgrade, oil restrictor help needed
Hi guys, I have a 91 Silvia, and am upgrading the stock SR20DET T25 turbo with an OEM S15 T28 turbo. As I understand it, it’s the GT28R. (Purchased the OEM S15 turbo on Enjuku)
The housing says: GARRET A/R60 M24 1-2 So my question is on the oil restrictor size. As I understand it, I need a -3AN .032 or I risk damaging the seals. All I see on Enjuku for restrictors are a .030 & .035. I’ve just ordered both just incase, as I have no down time to work on the car for the next few days. So I want the parts for when I can get back to it. So... Which one is correct for this T28 turbo setup? .030, (.032 recommended) or .035? I purchased the S13 turbo line kit, but it looks like the supplied -3AN fitting is just an adapter with a big hole feeding it. (Really glad I read up more on this... would have been easy for me to miss this detail and potentially screw up my new turbo.) So yea, anybody mind setting me straight? Thanks in advance. |

Since that is a ball bearing turbo, it shouldn't need much oil. Swapping out the restrictor is easy enough, so you could start with the bigger one and see if it smokes. It will probably be fine with the smaller one right off the bat though. It also looks like you are doing coolant lines for the turbo, so I wouldn't worry about too little oil causing overheating.
