Michigan Central Station
Thanks to Dane's buddy Grant I got to go to the Michigan Central Station for some urban exploring and amazing photo op. It was one of the coolest things I've ever done in my life. This building is amazing and sad at the same time.
Enjoy.

Bummed you missed out too. We miiiight make a trip in Summer. I'd really like to so I can enjoy the city instead of freezing my ass off the whole time. Yeah it was cold. Funny thing was we were all pretty cold the whole time. But once we got to the roof, after about 10 min we all were freezing. My toes and fingers were just frozen. Once we started making our way back down we all felt fine again. Pretty crazy how quick that happens.

Of the 4 months that I was in Michigan I never really got a chance to explore places like this. Only the Highland Park Ford Factory at 1am. lol.

Yeah it was the factory right off Woodward by the CVS or Walgreens.
There was a completely bullet proof Subway across the street. They don't mess around in that neighborhood. Haha. That factory is actually only used as storage now, so it's pretty much empty and CREEPY as hell.

I was working on a film out there because Michigan has a crazy tax incentive for movies so I guess it's a super popular place for film right now.
I was working on this. Actually a lot of this preview takes place in the Highland Park Ford Factory. We shot there for a good two weeks, but I was there for about 3 because of set up and tear down. Super creepy place. From 0:20 - 0:34 is all in the factory and then little bits and pieces.

i'll have to check it out when i get out of class. but yeah, the previous governor made making movies here a really good gig. there are film studios popping up around here now, which is good because people need some place to work. there are a few people complaining that it isn't fair, and that they should bump the taxes rates back up...
anyhow, did you happen to see anything else around the city? it's still kind of underground, but Detroit is becoming a mecca for art. hasn't quite popped up on the mainstream radar yet, but anything and everything art related is happening there. it's actually very cool, but most have no idea. yeah Mel, come back in the summer time and we'll wander around the city. you get a better idea of what it's all about when the weather is nice. people come out of hiding and things happen. pretty much january to when the nice weather hits, people get really tired of the weather and get depressed. lol.

Awesome pictures. A friend of mine has been an extra in TONS of movies over the last year or so in Detroit. He just recently moved when he got into a really exclusive directors school.
Detroit it where its at. Hopefully it helps the city out. It needs it.

I really hope they restore this building. They did it with the Westin Book Cadillac Hotel downtown and that was in similar shape. It cost $200 million to fix and it sounds like that's how much it's going to cost to fix the MCS.

Wow, it's really sad what can happen to such a rich building in under 100 years. 30 years, really.
Man, I'd really love to go explore stuff like this. Maybe I'll go back to Detroit just to go see some stuff.

the train station closed in '88. i honestly think it's too far-gone to restore.
the grand ballroom at the book cadillac. before: now: i believe that 2nd one is the correct room.
