called dan at dbpower, got some braided black front hoses coming for the brakes too,

looking for some r33 gtr brembo calipers and discs, i believe the discs on those will clear the lower arms better with the lock mods

busy weekend on the car

tested the radiator with a garden hose and it spat back out of the hose pipe before leaking out of any welds which is a good sign

got to work with cleaning the arches with a wire brush wheel on the grinder, this took forever, progress pic:

2 coats later, done the arches and underneath of the car along the floor, i've left out the sills for now so i didn't spray all over the ramp/workshop walls

going to clean the sills then spray them at home simply because i'd never be able to clean any overspray off the walls of the workshop

freshly sprayed

dry

with the arches clean i moved onto the suspension, started stripping the cs2 coilovers for cleaning and regreasing,

also replaced a torn boot on one

then moved onto the lower arms, moog ball joints pressed in and some energy suspension poly bushes

fitted the driftworks offset rack spacers, used loads of loctite 270 strong for this, used my massive ratchet to tighten them on and left for many hours for the liquid to dry

then the lower arms and tension rods went on, the tension rods have been stripped and threads fully greased both inside and out

then the tein rods, these were fitted again with the same ammount of loctite, also used the supplied 6mm spacer for extra lock

then on went the cs2's, geomaster hubs, bearings and tein rod ends

oh and also the driftworks rack boot, not too happy with it as it hits the lower arm bolt, it'll tear in no time i bet....

and the lock offered looks insane....i need to fabricate lock stops though
can see my tie wrap spec screen wash bottle

still to tighten on the bearings and set ride height, then allign it all

the front bumper was cut down to fit around the intercooler core

managed to retain the factory fog lights too since my i/c pipe work has a little more clearance than normal

strut brace was fitted too

also picked up some r33 gtr black 4 pot brembo calipers tonight from a local guy so i'll be buying discs and possibly pads from conceptua, not properly looked at pad condition but the guy said they have racing ferrodo brake pads currently fitted

and my db power front braided hoses arrived

alot of interior work left but apart from that it's making good progress

so moving forward, had some more time to get stuff done, front wheel bearing nuts were a bit of an issue

packed the bearings with grease then called driftworks as i notice the geomaster hubs have not got the two recessed lines for the bearing washer,

the two flats were missing, so called driftworks and spoke to kam, he said to put just the nut on and it'll be fine,

a little wary of this as there isn't even any part of the nut there to hit flat as a retainer, so i covered the threads in the extra strong green loc tight and torqued to 250nm

so the brake setup that was fitted to the car

Brembo R33 GTR Calipers
HEL Braided Hose
EBC 324mm skyline GTR Discs
EBC Yellow Stuff Skyline Brembo Pads

cleaned up the hub

had to put two spring washers under the original washers on the brembo bolts to space them out a little as the geomaster hubs are slightly thinner mounting points so the caliper was loose when the bolts were tight

fitted

tested a wheel on for brake clearance, et15 go on without a spacer....very tight though!

radiator rubbers arrived

got them fitted with a revotec fan controller in the bottom hose

rad filled up and holds water

this badge needs to make it's way onto the car somewhere.....i was thinking tie wrapped onto the kouki grill haha

heatwrapped the exhaust pipe till i ran out

some pics of the underneath with exhaust done

The sills will be ground back with a wire brush and stone chipped once the car is out of my work, couldn't do it because of the ramp legs being in the way so will do it on the floor back in the garage at home

looking nice! shame it'll get ruined

so did this....

and i powered up the fuel pump and checked all the pipes for leaks, all good

after a discussion with stuart taylor, jamie and a few others local from sxoc i've decided to lock the length of the rear traction rods to the factory length

that way i know they are the correct length and they won't be adjusted when the rear allignment settings are done

also took a little off with the grinder (looks rough) but it'll hopefully give that few mm more clearance around the driveshaft boot since the geomasters make the shaft sit almost touching it

set the ride height and the preload on the springs, this is about as high as it can go i'd say before running out of threads on the cs2's

sitting pretty, tucking front tyre

exhaust pipe hits the ramp middle piece that runs along the floor so it's pretty low as that's only an inch off the ground......:S
going to smash everything on the floor unfortunately

plan now is to finish off the wiring and get the car out for it's first road test

big updates!

spent tuesday night doing most of the finishing work on the car
wired in the fans with a on/off switch on the dash under the clocks to a relay in the bay then to one of the fans

then wired in the revotec relay to the other one as it has a sensor in the bottom hose now

wired in the water temp gauge using feed from the stereo loom for a switched ign live

then wired in the greddy boost gauge using a light source from the back of the clocks

fitted all the interior back together with everything working too which was a bonus, just a few more bits to go back on like the glovebox and foot well trims

ran the battery cable down the diver side into the boot and cable tied to the cage and so on

got the bungs fitted to block the factory recirc, so the engine is finished now

replaced one of the p/s washers for the fluid bottle to pump neck so was ready to go

pretty sure there was more stuff done too but i can't remember!

later on in the evening i thought i'd done everything and tried to fire it up

http://youtu.be/tQ5kIoRQvjg

unfortunately wouldn't go....turns out, long story short an earth for the ecu relay didn't have good contact as i'd had it on/off a few times, so it was not turning on the ecu.

called it a night as it was 11pm and i'd been at work since 7am that day and had work 7am the next day again....

wednesday night mark came round (redsx) to give a hand with getting it going

so with a new earth for the relay everything was working and it started up,

as expected it needed the coolant bled which was done in minutes and the power steering bled

this wasn't so simple, the pump was making some pretty bad noises and it was leaking everywhere

decided to carry on though, listen to that exhaust noise it sounds AMAZING!

http://youtu.be/CtZlThrvCsQ

so with the coolant bled and half power steering it was time to see if it would move on it's own......

ahhh wow!! what a fantastic feeling it is to drive it again!! needs alligned but apart from that it's amazing

really can't wait to get it out and open it right up fully!!

next day, after a discussion with dan smith, decided to do what he's done and fit a soarer banjo to the pump as that's the correct size and make it all mix together somehow

it would seem that the s14 factory pipe banjo is smaller than the soarer banjo

so emptied the power steering fluid and removed the s14 pipe

removed the power steering pump and swapped it with my spare one from my old soarer which i knew was good

banjo comparisson can be seen here

so the hydraulic shop next door to my work managed to get the soarer banjo onto the s14 pipe

used a female fitting onto the s14 hose

and another nut onto the soarer banjo pipe
which went together like this

fitted and filled up with new fluid

started it up and it was perfect! such a difference, new pump was quiet and had no bleeding issues, was basically fully bled by the time i started the engine as i'd manually

turned the wheels lock to lock and left it overnight with the cap off
apart from that the noises are pretty cool too! sounds like a ridiculous race car now haha

took the car outside for a test around the car park, the brakes are a little odd, i don't know if my cylinder can make enough pressure for the r33 gtr calipers/z23 rear calipers, i need to find out about this

i still have the skirts, spats, greddy lip to go on and some 25mm spacers if arches will allow after an allignment then i'll get some more pics

needs a polish!

the harnesses, dakota rpm converter and one or two little other things still are to be fitted

apart from that roll on the 1st of march so i can tax it and drive it!

SO, updates....these are the main things

compression tested the engine, it made 170psi on 5 cylinders and 165 on number 2, so it's all good

stripped out the idle control valve and cleaned it as the car had a bad idle

turns out my bad idle/missfire was number 2 and number 6 injector plugs have broken lock tabs on them, so i've managed to wrap a tie wrap around them for now

revotec fan controller has been setup now and comes on at just over 90 degereese and will run for a few minutes then turn off when the temp drops,
I
still have a manual switch for the fans too

dakota rpm signal converter is fitted and i now have a factory rev counter working with the jz signal

battery tray arrived from ebay, this was fitted in the boot, along with a battery voltage gauge fitted to the dash with an on/off switch

also bought a new battery for the car

bought a new pcv valve and hose from toyota for a 2jz, these breathe better and prevent issues down the line, my old hose had collapsed anyway

i then put on the kouki spats, need to get some new tape for the top of them to keep them tight onto the body as it didn't stick very well, either that or sealant
apart from that they look good!

my bm57 skyline brake master cylinder arrived
hopefully this will work better than the small one i have on now for the n/a, will get that fitted soon

so the night before allignment, 11pm when the bonnet was just about to be closed to head home from my work, some smoke started appearing at the back of the head
switched it off and after much messing around it was finally traced down to a split heater matrix pipe on the engine side,

I'd used the original matrix hose from the 1jz engine on one of the pipes which unfortunately had split since the hose was old and perished,
cut out the split and refitted the pipe, it's a temp repair until some new hose arrives
all is good for now, thankfully it didn't overheat or split when I was on the road to Wallace for the alignment

split matrix pipe.....

arrived at wallace for a 4 wheel lazer allignment

had the allignment done using mitto settings from driftworks but the machine couldn't read caster, i'm going back in for another full allignment check and to set caster once the machine has been serviced in a few weeks
it's amazing to drive now!! and it sits 10000x better too

sitting better

[IMG]http://i283.photobucket.com/albums/kk282/jdm-997/Silvia%
20S14a/448_zps039d35c3.jpg[/IMG]

bought some schroth harness 3 bar brackets for wrapping them around the cage

then got the harness on, passenger side is staying with the eye bolts as it'll be good for quick removal/storing wheels for drift days with seat back

a few new parts to go on, 16mm bendy silicone hose for the matrix to replcae that bad pipe, new jz coil pack plugs and dunno why the trs is in this pic haha

got the water pipe changed, made it a little longer than normal so that it didn't have any sharp bends/kinks

on went the new coil pack clips, the old ones broke up into a million pieces

annoyingly someone at my work has scuffed the freshly painted bumper, weather it was a delivery driver, a customer or whatever it's still very annoying especially when i had it painted to get rid of a mark in that exact same place!
as for now i've just been taking it easy in the car trying to bed in the clutch, i'd had to adjust the pedal again to get it 100%

my to do list:
-strengthen battery tray studs
-make new battery earth
-fit starter motor new cable direct from battery to starter terminal
-fit new battery terminal heavy duty posts
-sort out boost level with mbc
-fit brake master cylinder bm57
-wire in led alert flasher for when revotec turns on fan
-buy a sun strip or sort out visors with tie wraps around cage
-grind back and stone chip 2-3 coats on the sills that haven't been done yet
-fit vertex skirts and greddy lip
-buy component speakers for the front with an amp so i can actually hear the music
-fit lock nuts onto the eye bolts for harnesses on trans tunnel ontop of existing harness plates
-fit 2 new rear wheel bearings
-check tps voltage and set + timing
-buy an apex exhaust silencer
-secure rear fuel pipe on chassis leg wtih P clip
-buy a ton of cage padding

not many exciting updates here......

struggling to find time/money for the car right now

a few pics of the lock stops made up by me and josh, basic metal plate welded onto the lower arm with a hole and some threaded bar with a thick square welded onto the end

i'll get some finished pics up once they are bolted to the car as i had left them off to let all the paint dry

that's the battery now fully secured, used some 10mm thick metal plate across it to secure it down firmly,

the 50mm starter cable and 40mm alternator/fusebox cable has been ran better, it now goes through the middle of the center console and then branches off to either side
along with a new earth point added on using some extra thick cable

boost has been screwed up to a bar and is now a bit unsteady, it has hit fuel cut twice but that's all, i'm going to drive it more and find out weather it keeps doing it or not and if i'll fit my fcd or just turn the boost down

also got extra lock nuts onto the bottom harness eye bolts for just an extra bit of security ontop of the harness plates

i've made an order from car audio direct, JBL GTO6508C- 210w 16.5cm Component Speakers, Pioneer GM-A3602 - 2-Channel 400W Bridgeable Amplifier, Amp wiring kit and some 1.5mm flat speaker cable,

hopefully i'll now be able to hear the music which will be nice
- - - Updated - - -

bench bled the bm57 master cylinder

changed it, old one on the left

done

the brakes now properly work, they lock up too when stamped on hard enough! wouldn't do that with the old one!

my audio stuff arrived

next i cut out the tweeter mounts onto the door mirror plastic interior covers

that's about the only picture i took of the speakers, i'll get more once the fitting is finished but right now i need to make brackets to secure the amp in one of the rear 1/4 pannels out the way

don't know how they sound as my remote/switch wire from the head unit isn't turning the amp on, works when bridged but not when stereo is on, will probably be a setting in the settings to turn it on

anyway more importantly this is happening,

so i need to sort this asap! it runs crap just now

i've got a few things going on to fix it hopefully.....
checked out the ecu, all looks good however i do have a spare to try in if none of the below fixes it

the injectors are currently at injectortune.co.uk to get fully cleaned and flow tested
-i'm refitting that fuel damper pulse valve back inline with the fuel system as i've read on the supra forums a few guys have had issues after removing it
-i'm refitting the recirc valve just as another 'return to factory' change to try smooth out the idle
-replace the alternator if it's having charging issues on idle (they wear out)
-check/set tps
-i'll change the coils with my spare set, i've also found after pulling back some of the wiring loom protection that the coil wiring plastic outer wire skin has started to break up, the wires are also quite hard so i have a feeling they may be breaking up inside

just one of the joys of a 20 year old wiring loom

if none of the above fixes it then i'll have to move onto cam and crank sensors, either broken/poor wire condition and or bad/poor condition sensors

i wanted to check the timing as someone suggested the exhaust cam being a tooth out,
set it at tdc and checked with a long screw driver ontop of piston 1

inlet cam timing

exhaust cam timing, just ever so slightly off, i've been told it's not enough to cause anything and that it will always sit like that

so if anyone has any ideas about this running issue just fire me some suggestions

there are no air leaks, the plugs are new and were gapped to 0.28, the air filter is new, the exhaust has no cat so it won't be blocked, i have loads of earths on the engine, compression is good, timing is good....

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
update from today, (saturday 26th)

swapped coils, made no difference, then tonight when driving home from work the car suddenly stopped revving up and was dyling slowly, the only way I can describe it was like an sr20 when you unplug the maf

new rev limiter of 2-3k rpm is cool......

going to check ecu codes now to find out what's going on, hopefully it'll be a cam sensor as I have 2 spare from my other engine
took a video showing what it's doing:

update from today 02/05/2014
big thanks to dan smith, mark and struan with the help trying to diagnose the problems
done a load of work on the car over the last few days, staying late at work till 12 on school nights sucks!
mishimoto oil cooler is here, it's MASSSIVE

checked coil pack wiring beneath the heat wrap stuff from the factory, found some broken wires, so i replaced them with renault megane clips and lengths of loom, much stronger

got an oil filter housing bolt from a 2jz n/a which can take an oil pressure sensor in the end, i'll be using it with a T piece for a pair of gauges on the dash

sent my spare injectors away to injectortune to get flow tested and cleaned, got them back and replaced my injectors with them, all in an attempt to get it running smoother

i've now removed the coolant pipework from the car that goes from the front of the head, through the throttle body then through the idle controlve valve, mainly because it was pissing me off every time i took off the idle control valve the coolant hoses would make a mess, it also acts as a way of cooling down the intake temps as the throttle body isn't so hot without the coolant running through it

bunged up the coolant pipes on both the idle control valve, they are probably just a through hose with no effect anyway but i bunged them just incase
ran an 8mm silicone hose fron the front coolant outlet right the way over to the back bypassing it all

so in an attempt to get the car to idle better, i'd tried my spare coils, igniter, ecu and that made no difference

then the coil pack look was replaced as mentioned above, the injectors were replaced and it still wouldn't idle good
mark came round late one evening and we messed around for a while, disconnected the o2 sensor and it sorted out the fueling,
next day dan smith had posted me his spare o2 sensor (thanks mate), which at the same time i'd bought a new one just incase his spare wasn't good
not cheap either

then mark and struan came over with the wideband, the car was sitting with the afr's between 15 and 20 every time the exhaust backfired
after alot of messing around trying to work out if the fuel pressure was bad etc, mark checked the voltage at the pump and it came to 11 volts
which then led back to the whole begining of the alternator not charging on idle....things clicked
so today (friday), i setup the relay trick for the fuel pump
need to tidy the wiring but it's done for now

fitted the new o2 sensor
and then fitted my spare alternator from my old soarer

it isn't perfect but it's certainly doing more than the last one was, not fully charging but it's making an effort

this has sorted out most of the idle issues, it now runs smooth with the odd pop out the exhaust, in theory with the alternator not charging on idle, none of the sensors/fuel pump would have been working correctly
that's why when it was reved up the car would run afr's in the 14's as the alternator would pump out some extra voltage
i threw on the vertex skirts and went for a run, 4th gear pull from 10mph and it hits fuel cut 3-4 times haha, i've turned down the boost for the rolling road day tomorrow

i'm now hunting down someone who can rebuild/refurbish 1jz alternators as the local companies stopped supplying them, they are all non stock items and cannot be ordered anymore....apart from toyota who are £400

rolling road day tomorrow, i'm thinking it'll make anything between 260-280bhp which will be just perfect, gives me something to go by for when i go single turbo later this year

done some 4th gear pulls before r/r day and it was hitting fuel cut so I turned the boost down to actuator pressure to be safe,

it made what I predicted, 270bhp and 285 lbft of torque,

fueling was really rich so it would have made more power if I'd left it at a bar of boost but just didn't want to risk hitting fuel cut and spoiling the runs. All I can say is bring on the holset big single times next year

as of late i have been really busy with work/that other blue s14 i picked up
the car hasn't moved much lately

i had it over at my work on saturday for a few jobs and some prep for the up coming practice drift day, didn't get many pics though

the lock stops were finally bolted in place and seem to work well, time will tell how they hold up

i changed some tyres, one was leaking on the back as the sidewall had a tear just on the bead, so it always had a slow leak, must have happened during fitting so that tyre was thrown out

the skirts were removed and ground away any bad areas back to clean metal then stone chipped, that was a job i'd been needing to do for a while so i can now say it's fully stone chipped

still looks fresh underneath, just needs a good wipe down

changed the water temp gauge to a digital one as the last one stopped lighting up anyway

and the best thing about the day was fitting the greddy lip! cutting it was a bit scary, had to take it back a few cm to clear the intercooler, the fitment is spot on!

i can't describe how happy i am now with it!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

got tired of the spaghetti mess laying around behind the slam pannel, bought a mini fuse box from ebay, i now have both HID's coming from this, the revotec and also the power for the second fan relay

also added in another relay bridged across the revotec going to the same switch feed wire as the second fan,

that way the swith on the dash turns on both fans at once now as there was no point in having it just control one of them only
tucked the igniter up by the wiper motor
and added a 3" black air filter with a 90 degree reducer

next i moved onto the amp in the back, it was thrown together to make sure it all worked/sounded good, so now was time for wire tucking/cutting to the correct size

before

after

although now i'm getting noise through the speakers that matches the engine, i think my phono cables are touching a power cable somewhere, also it doesn't help the amp casing being screwed to the chassis metal, i'll fix it later

also wired in an led flasher so i know when the revotec switches on the fan, it sits on the dash next to the gauge

skid bumper ready for sat, chopped alot out the back to fit around the i/c core, also chopped out the number plate hole, just doesn't show in this pic

cleaned it and met jordan who owns my old green s14, he's done alot of work to the car and it looks really different now!

my favourite pic:

---------------------------------------------------------

so with crail private oval drift day coming up i loaded the car up with as many wheels as i could, got 4 inside and 2 in the boot, think i was lucky as the 4 inside were 40 profile tyres

also for the first time had all my skid rims in the one place

arrived at crail, whipped off the bonnet as it was a roasting day, emptied the car and threw on 2 skid rims on the back, helmet on then it was time for my first drift run in over a year!

what a smoke machine!

after about 5-10 minutes of unsteady unconfident sliding i feel i have finally got the hang of it, the car is very different to any normnal s14 i've drifted, the grip level is insane, the transitions are able to snap your neck if you're not ready, the chassis is so flat/planted

the geomaster hubs are an epic piece of kit, they really do as they say, deliver massive grip levels and offer huge lock

currently i only have this short video, my mate was chasing with a go pro on his mx5 bonnet, they are uploading all the footage to a new fb page for car media

like the page cabrabros to support them if you want!

https://www.facebook.com/CabraBros

so here's a quick vid of how the car was

http://youtu.be/QQ1yVsN2rlU

was pushing very hard throughout the day and was going too fast on one corner which led to this

luckily no damage, just stuck in the mud haha, that was exactly how i'd stopped, i had managed to scrub off all my speed just before i ran out of tarmac so it was just a little dip into the puddle, thankfully no bent chassis rails etc either

was getting close to stevie with his s14, or what at least felt close haha, we were taking turns at chasing each other, so much fun!

then my power steering went heavy so i pulled off track instantly only to find my fan belt had broke up

so this is how i made it home as i couldn't get a new belt locally since it was late
saturday afternoon

the monday morning i'd had a closer look, found the fan belt tensioner's bearing has play and is noisey, it looks like it's had a bit of slack and the belt has ran through it cutting a groove in the belt which led to it snapping

threw on my spare tensioner with a new belt and it's all fixed now

http://youtu.be/szaoPMNdPtA

all in all i got pretty lucky as that belt does the water pump, could have been 100x worse and burst the head gasket, the car's temps when drifting didn't really go much over 108 degreese, which was great as that's with water wetter, ran really good the whole day so i'm happy with the testing,

bring on the next drift day for more mad fun all the hard work paid off and i'm finally relieved!

oh also, i'm waiting on mike/graeme to upload more footage/pics, especially the chase cam footage

Nice to see that you were finally able to get out and enjoy your car, after all the work that you had put into it

booked a driftland day for friday the 27th, we get 4 hours on the track so i'm very keen to get to drive it
can't wait!!

i have been doing some maintenance and cleaning on the car lately
washed off the mud on the underneath

then went for a run to dry it off since it was a roasting dry day

i've done a few other small jobs, new front tyres, went for dunlops this time, if they don't perform well enough i'll be onto either 595 RSR's or r888's next
also for some reason the front wheel on the driver side has now started making contact with the coilover, i have a feeling the 1mm or clearance i had before has been taken up now the spring has settled

so i've bought some 6mm hubcentric spacers and will be lowering the car a little more

also threw in a new rear wheel bearing from camskill as the last one was noisey

the old one

then my spacers arrived, 6mm hubcentric's

applied copper grease on both sides

also gaining me a good bit of clearance from the springs now

lowered the car half an inch again, the ride height is perfect now,

so, friday was amazing!

started off with an early 6am start and a long drive to driftland
arrived nice and early

signed on, car was noise checked and then i removed the bonnet/bumper (helps keep it cool) also swapped on skid wheels and done a few other things

behind john and his s15 that i'd converted to an sr20det earlier this year, we were first up

then it was time to go!

boom instant problems, car wouldn't go anywhere in 3rd gear, kept rev limiting at around 3-4k rpm and holding back

fuel cut for some reason had suddenly gotten worse
the whole day was spent fighting the car to stop it gripping in third and keep sliding

eventually i screwed the manual boost controller to basically fully off which gave me only actuator pressure on the turbos

it was a crappy 0.6-.7 bar which came in late so it was a bit of a challenge with the ammount of grip given from the geomaster hubs
never the less the day was epic!

(looks like tyre is sparking at bottom)

the car really did well given the circumstances with power delivery
driftland is a seriously grippy track with having fresh tar down, it's such an amazing place though!!

near the end of the day i was managing to hold it pinned in 3rd from the bottom corner and manji all the way along the straight wall section and throw it into the big corner with a change down to second mid way through in an attempt to keep some sort of power down!
it was an epic feeling when you nailed a run!

later on in the day i had been making efforts to chase john

all in all, an epic day! we are doing it again soon as a private day for 4 hours gave us so much seat time which is exactly what i wanted
thanks to cabrabro's michael and graeme, there is a video to watch which shows some great clips!

also a thanks to ross (tfrenegade photography) and martin!

few more pics of the driftland morning a while ago
chasing john with flames

and a big entry

so during the last week i've had a bit of a hassle getting the car ready for finalboss
the fuel cut controller i'd ordered from the states arrived and instantly died when bench testing it
howver my RSR's arrived on time for the front wheels

put them on the wheels and balanced them, eddie couldn't bear to look at them

thanks to my mate billy for cleaning the car! he spent a whole day giving it all sorts of dodo juice and wax and all that fancy jazz....
it's never been this clean before!

then got some of the finalboss weekender prep work done
fitted the gk tech driftshaft spacers

also threw in an exhaust 2" restrictor gasket which solved my boost issues i'd been having
renewed the diff oil and gearbox oils too

thanks for the facebook post

then came the finalboss drift day!
gotta be honest, it was the best car related weekend i've ever had....
so many cool cars, the quality of driving was through the roof!!
got to put faces and names together meeting most of the english guys.
it was just so cool seeing the cars i've read build threads on and stuff actually in the flesh for once!
the que for the track was always interesting!

i started the day off really well, going at my own pace, keeping a safe enough distance from people to get into the swing of things

then later on in the day i was attempting a massive flick entry along the wall and i must have lifted or something but i caught grip and it shot me around
thankfully i'd managed to spin the car around and lost all my speed, it resulted in what can only be described as the same force as someone bumping into your car when reversing out of a car park space
it was possibly the gayest bump at driftland haha
nothing important damaged, all chassis parts are straight thankfully! i got lucky. The front mount core broke and broke a headlight bracket, the pannel below the headlight was a little bashed in but that was pulled out by hand :S just shows how soft the nissans are!!

so with a massive thank you to [email protected] and cal tucker they sorted me out with a loan of a fmic to get me back on track, i removed the lights as they were not secure and didn't want them falling out on track, and borrowed a ratched strap to hold the fmic up since the brackets were different
the car looked CRAP

HOWEVER, thank god i didn't have my greddy lip or kouki bumper on or else they would have been toast....to be fair they probably would have saved my headlight and fmic core though haha

and i got back on it!
it was cool getting to drive with alex!

was such an epic day! everyone was on it! serious driving. well done to gary for sorting it out! finalboss ftw!
roll on number 2!
------------------------
so i found a 14a that was being broken local just by chance, i went out and bought the headilght pannel and a pair of lights
thanks graeme!
stone chipped them

got the car to my work and stripped the front off so i can change the broken fan
new fans in and the front pannel

along with a brand new fmic

all done,

i'd say it's 99% fixed, still a few small pannel gaps that i can get a hand adjusting later with stevie
no point worrying, it's a drift car, these things happen, it's the nature of motorsport!
i got off very lucky with no serious chassis damage, just a few parts that i could swap with a few bolts

so with that out the way it's time to look into what's coming up for the car

I've got a single turbo manifold coming for the car

i've also bought some 550cc supra injectors from a 2jz twin turbo uk spec, also a resistor pack to make them work

and i'll need something to make it work so i bought an e manage blue,
it'll do for now, there is alot of hate towards this ecu but for what it cost compared to others it'll do me for now until i can afford a proper stand alone setup
comes with a 3 bar map sensor and cable and stuff

i'm having a fly lead made so it'll be a direct plug and play between my ecu plugs so it saves hassle.

still waiting on parts arriving so i can start the single turbo swap
however a few things have been done during the wait
removed the silencer ring from the inlet on the turbo

removed the exhaust housing

josh welded up my holset turbo internal gate, it's now fully sealed shut, also had had the wastegate arm hole welded closed

because the holset factory fitting vband flange is hard to get, i'd bought a pair of 3" v bands, one was welded to the turbo
this will save buying a 2.5 > 3 inch step up exhaust pipe too, i can run 3" direct from the back of the turbo
welded inside and out

have also had some parts show up
3" flexi with heat wrap

greddy emanage

supra 550cc injecctors and resistor pack
(they will be getting cleaned/tested by injectortune.co.uk before fitting)

i also spent an afternoon working on my spare soarer ecu loom from my 1st car i originally broke
removed so much junk from the loom
all the auto box wiring
all the original soarer chassis plugs (5 of them)
abs stuff
traction control stuff
heater matrix valve wiring
starter motor solenoid wiring
oil level sensor wiring
cruise control stuff
and a load of other junk i didn't need, i've kept the wires for the rpm signal, the oil pressure light, the alternator charge light and some other bits for the s14 to keep my current loom the same
basically the plan now is, remove the old loom, fit this new loom and pray it works!
also i'll be replacing the injector plugs and the coil pack plugs on this loom before it goes in as it'll be 10x easier on the floor rather than on the car

thanks to auto extreme for good service again! highly recommended!
my 6boost mani turned up with a turbosmart 44mm wastegate
w
some fuel rail fittings to convert them from the factory banjo fittings, needed for when an aftermarket fpr is used

and my injectors came back from injectortune, they will be like brand new ones now!

the connector harness for the emanaage arrived, nice piece of kit! speak to nigel west if you want one of these done, very good guy to work with!

i'd also sent away my injector rail to be re-bored out to 10mm as the factory rail is a little restrictive

so, got the car over to my work and removed the twins

space was a little tight so i had to strip the turbo setup in place and take it out in bits

done, minus one of the manifolds

all the old crap

on goes the 6boost

and then the holset for a test fit

after turning the front of the turbo around to position it correctly for the intercooler pipework, the fuse box sits in the way.

so the fuse box came out
after a chat with clive and stu taylor i've decided to put the box under the dash board passenger airbag slot so there is still access, thanks to them for the advice,
fuse box isn't too bad to remove, inide there are all the plug on the steering collumn, then one big white connector with a 10mm plug, there are also two smaller plugs behind the interior fuse box in the back of it that need removed
then i pulled the loom down out of the arch, removing the abs wiring and brake master cylinder plugs
so that was that side done, then inside the bay you have to disconnect both the smaller connectors under the fusebox for the lower loom, the power connector into the fuebox and some earths,
and lastly the loom running along the front of the car for the headlights, indicators/fogs, horn and depending if your car is an a/c model, the fan wiring for that, also an abs wire behind the coolant expansion tank
pulled it all out the car like so

giving me alot of space around the turbo now for a massive 4" air filter and the intercooler pipework
if i get time i'll hopefully manage to get a new fuse and relay board made up for inside the car which will include my fan relays and hid relays so again it's less junk around the bay
p.s THAT'S NOT RUST IN THE CORNER, IT'S THICK GREASE TO PREVENT RUST BECAUSE THE PAINT SPLIT FROM HAMMERING THE ARCHES, i'll paint it and tidy that up laters

hx35

my model number is hx351W which is the most up to date holset apparently, it's the 12cm housing model too.

now for the wiring...
not many pics as it was a horrible job that i just wanted over and done with
first thing saturday morning

inside the passenger airbag hole with the airbag removed, just 4 10mm nuts and two clips at the front

wish i'd done this last year when it was all stripped

done and back together, box secured etc

with the lid on

i've changed a few bits.....some wires have been extended too, will end up having a few notes in here for future reference if needed.....
-moved my screen wash wiring to now sit behind the passenger seat rear 1/4 pannel joined and extended using a red wire as the pink one and a black wire as the green one

-two of the s14 alternator wires are used in the jz plug, so i've lengthened them from the fusebox using a red wire the the s14's red/white cable and a black for the solid yellow cable
also added a kill switch for the main battery feed for emergency use on the dash
some new parts arrived today too (monday)
some heat protection sleeve

a brand new alternator fromn america

and my gfb boost controller from aus

also a bit of a silly impulse buy, a dc5 recaro seat
ideally i wanted a black one but it was local and i thought i could replace my bride with this so i have a matching pair of seats for once

if a pair of black recaros or matching bride brix seats comes up i'll take them
i've also managed to find a local tig welder who should be able to weld on the front elbow onto my holset when it turns up
tomorrow night's plan is to make the downpipe and mount the wastegate
that just leaves the wiring to extend for the headlights, indicators and fog lights, also the horn too
still waiting on more bits arriving, sard fpr and some more heat protection parts

well a big thanks to josh for welding and mark for lending a hand, making the downpipe was a bit of a nightmare....
started off using an ebay soarer downpipe chopped up into pieces then tack welded into place and it seemed pretty good
adjusted the angles, shortened some parts and extended the straight part,

then it was welded up and test fitted on the car, unfortunately there was a problem, it had warped with the heat and changed the pipe's angles
so it was removed again and extended 2cm this time with bracing added when welding
also added in a small flange for retaining the oem o2 sensor since it's only a few months old

then the manifold was bolted to the head properly this time, only to discover 3 of the studs underneath need shortened and two need the washers ground down on the nuts as they hit the welds
the manifold comes with a slight angled pipe offcut and it's perfect for positioning the wastegate,
just a short while later with the wastegate being on / off the pipe was welded on and a screamer pipe was made by welding the vband onto an old offcut of 45mm pipe i had laying around

everything was placed on the car at once and it looks like it's going to work perfectly
i've got everything off the car now and will be replacing 3 studs on the head that are shortened, manifold came with new spares which is good
every weld will be cleaned/inspected fully both inside and out to make sure it is sealed/won't cause any problems flowing through my turbo or wastegate....
then i can start the heat wrap job and get everything protected
also just remembered it's been a year now so it's time for a full fluids change on the car, everything, brake fluid, p/s fluid, gearbox, engine oil, diff oil was done just weeks ago but i will be changing the diff so new oil for that too for when i fit the new one

drained the engine of fluids
oil
ss
coolant too as i'm changing the matrix hoses since the silicone hose from artel motorsport is shit and has perished after only 6 months use, the company is so useless with returns that i chased them for 3 weeks the last time, not going to bother asking for a replacement as it'll probably do the same again so i'll be using ASH stuff from ap motorsport
coolant came out really clean which is good, no oil etc, ignoring the cloth i dropped in

also washed through the whole system with a hose pipe

got my oil filters

and a sandwich plate so i can run oil temp gauge and oil pressure

really need to get an oil cooler pipe kit and sandwich plate to fit my mishimoto oil cooler
new alternator fitted and i have also heat wrapped the bottom lower rad hose with the shielding

made up a new headlight loom for driver side and it runs along the original route, just had to extend it from the old connectors that were pulled through the bulkhead from the fusebox relocation

really boring job.....

also got the 6boost on for the final time, cut down all the studs along the bottom except one,
i had to grind the washers off the nuts and then get some m10 washers and grind them down into almost half moons so that it would work
the problem with this manifold is the welds are too close to the stud hole meaning when i tightened the nuts down they would bottom out on the weld before tightening against the flange so the manifold would be slack
all sorted now though

heatwrapped the downpipe

going to get more done this week hopefully
a few more parts have arrived also, sard fpr and a few others, I've also got some more parts on order so they will hopefully arrive this week
