So, I'm getting rid of everything minus the rear taillights with the harness that goes to the rear and I just undid an entire harness that goes around to the back..
i cut out the wiring harness for under the center console too..

now.. i fear i may have just opened up a can of worms that i'll never untangle?


anyone done re-wiring the interior for just the bare essentials?
lmk any tips!

... so you basically cut a whole bunch of wires without considering what they were for?

I recommend you completely strip your interior and track back all the wires you cut to see what they were for.
Anything you don't want to run, cut it out, but take your time and don't fuck up. Electrical fires aren't as fun as everyone says.


Fun Fact - I'll be rewiring *my* car to ADD shit that wasn't there previously.

If you don't know what you're doing, then why are you doing this? The weght saving is minimal.


Yes, I have completely rewired my car from scratch, but I have experience so this stuff is no big deal.

It's not hard but it's not simple either. My advice is to leave the wiring stock. If you want to save weight, clean out your car, especially the area between the fenders and the body where rocks and debris tend to collect.

Hm.. I was trying this to run a couple wires to the brake lights and make things a little less confusing but i made things more confusing

also removing the fuse boxes from the engine bay under the dash..

maybe im in over my head.... lol
i'll see what i can do tomorrow

I did something similar removing the "non-essentials".
Easiest way to keep it neat is to start at the connectors going to what you don't want. (ie, remove the read speaker, take the plug and as you unwrap the harness pull that connector/wiring out)

This way your not cutting in the middle then trying to find where it goes.
Work from the ends, back to the huge junction in the dash, then just pull the pins out.

I will admit though, it was crazy and took quite awhile to get everything finished up. I did what i wanted, but honestly, you are better off just leaving it.

I need to redo all the wiring on my car. My audio system wiring is an abomination. Also, the super margarita machine won't wire itself.

oh your gonna have a headache connecting the right wires back together. i would have started with the connectors to the tail lights, peel back the wires that werent being used and work my way to the front removing any other wires that are not being used. this way you know what wires to leave and what they belong to. good luck. shits gonna be time consuming

When rewiring your chassis, don't forget the fuel pump also needs some wire. haha. Not just the tail lights.

I rewired my coupe and it was pretty easy. Like Mr Meph said just follow the wires to see what they are for.

I think the fuel pump uses a different loom of wire, so i should be good.
i did go from the connector down to the big 'socket'..

i did get rid of the entire center console harness and that proved to be more of a bitch than the rear wires.

Also.. some wires loops back into each other, usually ground wires (blk) were like that.
I can just re-connect the two together and complete the circuit, correct?

I also got rid of everything hvac related, so i wanted to just eliminate all the wiring for it.

it's a big pain in the ass, though. haha.
