automatic

I am putting a 240sx together for my daughter who is 15 now and is a auto trans from a 98 s14 electronicaly shifted by the ecu?

If she wants to drive a strong car she can drive my 340hp 240 with a 5spd.

thanks

Auto cars have their own computer. Be sure she can drive before you send her off, a 240 is a horrible car to learn on for an unexperienced driver.

Yeah, first time she drives thru an intersection in the rain I'm sure you will get a phone call with the bad news

IMHO the auto 240sx is a worse car to drive cause the the tranny shifts when it damn well pleases. The TCU was programed by the devil himself. I would be going around a corner and the bitch would decide "time to downshift". Total fun in the rain.

Get her a manual. Don't torcher her with the auto.

Show me a 15-21yr old female driver who cares about being careful. Is this while they're talking on the phone, putting in CDs, showing off their new shoes to their friends, and scoping for cute guys in other lanes?

Car will be toast in no time.

Of course if it was a guy it'd be the same thing, but he'd be involved in an illegal street race with a civic while doing all those things.

First car I ever had was an auto s13 coupe no ABS........ that car was done in no time.... I wouldn't advise a 240 for a first car, especially in an area where there is a lot of rain and harsh snowy/icy winters like the northeast.

I agree x100 from personal experience. 240sx are very unforgiving for first time drivers. First thing she will do is slam on the breaks if she feels any kind of over/understeer. Which will turn into total understeer and bada bing, bada boom its over.

Does the 240 really slide out THAT easily in the rain? I mean it'd just slide out automatically when I push the gas when its raining? Haha anyone care to explain in a little more detail? I was going to get a 240 for a first car.. But of course i won't be racing and all on the streets when im still in the process of learning. Would keeping the car under control really be that much of a problem?

well I am not afraid of putting her into it because she has raced a go kart with an alcohol burning briggs engine that will do 80mph. and only rear breaks it will come around very easily.

is the trans shifted by the comp? thinking of going stand alone ecu for that future engine swap.

thanks

The TCU has direct controll of the AT unit. If you went standalone you would need another tranny.

If she's such a great driver then why no MT?

I got my first car a few months ago, a 97 auto 240 (wanted a manual, but I settled after seeing a swap was possible). After driving for only about a week, it rained (as my city is prone to doing). Stuck in a line of minivans waiting to turn left into a school, I tried to get into the right lane from a stop before the opening closed: pressed the gas, heard the engine revving, but rather than go right and forward I just started to rotate right - that is, until I got traction and found myself heading towards the curb :/ A frightening amount of pilot induced oscillation and pair of jeans later, I realized that I have the traction of a bar of soap on slick roads. But oh these hot florida days

Yeah, when I got mine it had wonderful Cooper tires. Every time it rained it was spining off the line. I was on an incline and there was some bubba's in a camaro. I start spining and they thought I was trying to race them. they take off. Good tires are a must.
