Ground Up Kouki Build!
Hey guys, I've been helping a buddy of mine build his S14 so I figured I'd start a thread since he doesn't post much. A little background.. for the last 10+ years I've been building Hondas and since I sold my S13 back in 2004-ish I have always wanted to build another Nissan. Well I finally got the opportunity to work on this project so I figure why not document it.
Specs on the chassis... 1997 S14 240SX 5pd Black w/ white leather 85k miles on the chassis I started taking pictures after the motor had been yanked out. He had let someone borrow the engine to get their car running for a show and they ended up blowing it up. Long story short, we are now building the KA24DE motor. There are a few companies helping us with the build, they are: Hand Crafted Racing Chase Bays Doc Race Full Race Injector Dynamics Xcessive Manufacturing Here are come pictures of the tear down... We moved the car to a different workspace so we could get it out of the weather. The engine bay almost empty... We move to the interior... Forgive my crappy picture... I'll make sure to take better ones now that I have a thread haha. We start the removal of all of the sound tar and smooth out some of the floor pans in preparation for paint. The dry ice didn't work so well on the back sections, so we did it by hand. Removed all of the tar and cleaned off all of the residual goo.. I smoothed out all of the ugly, over applied seam sealer. Halfway done... Etch primed Some still left on the rear seat section Wiped down and cleaned... This stuff is so nasty. All cleaned, sanded and wiped down. After about a week's worth of sanding, scraping and cursing it's finally all etched out and one step closer to paint. That's all for now! I should have more in the next few weeks as we work more and more parts start showing up. ID1000's came in today though! Thanks for looking!

Little update..
Xcessive intake manifold, ID1000 injectors and AEM rail came in. Daimond Black TE37SL 18x10 +20 18x11 +18 Chasebays DIY brake line kit also came in... Back to the car. I made some progress on the wiring harness, pretty much removed all of the extra junk that would normally be in the bay. The fuse/relay box is getting moved inside as well. Harness junk It was pretty much a mess at first but it will eventually clean up. I ran the wires out though the factory hole and started lining them up for the lights, fan, ect. More pics coming soon!

Looks like it's going to be an awesome build. I'm picking up a mostly stock black 97 tomorrow. Might make a build thread depending on what direction I decide to go with it. |

The car isn't going to have any interior in it anyway... nothing but door panels, dash, seats and cage. The entire car is getting painted and leaving all of the nasty tar in is a terrible idea. So we took it out, besides, this isn't going to be a daily driver anyway.
Full Race front mount came in today. Thanks for looking.

Like!!!
Looking forward to seeing the paint, cage etc. I would assume that the battery tray and other useless things in the engine bay will be nixed... Surprised you didn't paint it while the chassis wiring was out. Any plans to do so?

Because race car is why there is not gonna be any pristine zenkis or koukis on the road in the near future. If you are going to build a racecar dont rape a completely stock and well taken care of car to turn it into a tin car racer. Better off finding a older, experienced car and build that "ground up", not something thats already there.

Nice build so far! Build the car exactly how you want to build it! Ppl may flame on you for tearing a nice car apart but it's because they don't have the patience to commit to a quality build. Love it keep it up

haha thanks for the comments... The car was the only one available and from my experience, the nicer the car is when you start, the less work/money and time you have to spend getting it back in shape. Forgive me if the car wasn't shitty enough to build. ^_^
The project has taken some turns and has seen some setbacks. The plan WAS to go KA-T, which is why we have a fully built motor in the forsale section... the new motor setup is still being planned. This was a few months ago when we were test fitting some of the parts... The TE's have been sold and in the meantime we have ordered something new: 18x12 & 18x10.5 Meister S1. The cage is here, along with some other random parts. Now that spring is here and my other projects are finished up, it's going to be time to start knocking this thing out. Body and paint will come soon as soon as we can test fit the wheels and over fenders..ect. Thanks for looking.
