####...if i had 7 or 8 grand to spend on a sr20dett id just get the sr swap for 4 grand then add all the goodies like intercooler, boost controller, exhaust, etc then slap on a t66 turbo or something ridiculous for the same price...it'd be faster too

OK first off ... its gonna be "MY" car... and 2nd my uncle does body work and has done told me that he would put in a targa top for me but only if i was for sure thats what i wanted and he was gonna paint my car for me totaling up with both of up to about 1g's Not bad i dont think... and as far as the turbo thing goes im not very up to date ob this shit but I know for a fact that it is possible and could work out to be a great car if i did that... because id have the sr20dett with an additional turbo added but Im not really sure what im gonna do about that yet .. still deciding, but so far im leaning towards the Hybrid.

K, I'm a big time dreamer, but 1000 U.S. dollars for a custom targa top and paint job? What's the story on this uncle of yours? He work for the mob? As far as taking a semi-new 240, and immediately sticking a new engine in it, I'm all for it if you have the cash.

HOWEVER, it sounds like you don't know what you want, and you're going to end up with a half-assed project car that never materializes. And why the #### would you dish out the extra money for the small increase of a second turbo? Why not stick the Pathfinder engine in it if you're looking to make a custom 240sx? It's got 240 horses, and some ungodly amount of torque. That'll move you right quick. Better than the SR20DET or TT. Much less, it'll last longer.

Stick to the forums for another month, learn some more about automobiles, then go back to picking the car you want, IMHO.

If your uncle is good at what he does, it might turn out to be an interesting project.

Maybe you could import parts from an actual SR20DETT to get that to work. Honestly though, it wouldn't be faster than a single turbo setup, especially on a 4-cyl motor.

Jennifer,

I just want to add, that what you are trying to do does seem a bit shocking, especially for a newbie to 240SX's and maybe even performance cars in general? (just my impression)

But I've also seen that many people who try something new are often critisized exactly like you were here and they end up actually pulling it off in quiet on their own and all the critics are silenced and amazed.

I only recommend that you consult with some experts about your TT conversion (on the KA or a SR). Either way it's going to be an expert only affair. I am also assuming that you have quite a bit of pocket change and time to spare. BTW, TT 240's do exist, and they aren't all RB or VG transplants. I've seen two turbo's (I don't think they were sequential) on a SR before (in pics). Each turbo attached to 2 exhaust ports. I don't think a turbo manifold like this exists to purchase, so unless you want to make it yourself or have another uncle that knows how, you need to have a custom pro-welder made thingie made. It's going to cost bucks, especially if you want show quality looks (like it seems you are going for).

Either reconsider, study more, or if you're certain about this, good luck to you. Can't wait to see the finished product.

OK OK guys chill out give her a break. Try to help and not flame her. Give her ur opinion and not ur criticism. She is just new to the car scene welllllll import car scene and just gets carried away with her plans sometimes :-P and doesn't totally understand everything. If her uncle can paint the car and do a targa top for $1k then it will be a kick ass car!!! As far as the TT topic i was just reading the 11 month write up in Sport Compact Car magazine last night (Suck, Squish, Bang, Blow), and it specifically says that a TT on a 4 cylinder would bring poor performance and should be used for show applications only. Myself, I would want my car to perform the best it could, so this would definetly not be the route i would go and i don't think it would be for her either ...... maybe not. If I was definetly set on a TT setup i would go with an RB26DETT. Hey S13Grl u listening ....... I don't know if u asked questions like these when u 1st got here but i hope they treated u better than they've treated her ...... help my gurl out please :-)

TT is only good for engines with 2 banks of cylinders (v6, v8) or a big i-6 (rb26, 2jz). however notice all the supra guys are wanting to upgrade to single turbos (as well as the skyline gt-r guys), unless they need to make over 1000hp which is hard to get out of most single turbos without going ridiculous sized (ever see that pic of the stang with a t100?).

on the subject of a targa top, i wouldnt do this unless you're planning on adding alot of structural reinforcements, such as poly fill of the doorsills and rocker panels. you're going to have some serious chassis flex issues, and if your car ever rolls you're going to snap your neck without a rollcage (also a good idea for chassis reinforcement)

Don't targa top a car that wasn't supposed to be a targa top. I'll say it before, and I'll say it as often and loudly as need be again: never, under any circumstance whatsoever, touch how well the 240's body is made already.

The day I bought my 240 convertible, I drove my coupe to pick it up and let my friend drive the coupe back. Well, okay, not "let" as much as "asked". And, truth be told, she was doing me a really big favor. But, usually, I never let anyone drive my 240 coupe.

Anyway, the point is, back at my apartment, she said, "Wow, you have smoothest car ever.", and after driving the convertible home from it's drop off location, I said, "Ya know, I think I just realized that tonight too".

The moral of the story, as I promised I would repeat, is to never, ever, EVER tinker with that roof. Even slightly. It's far more perfect now than you can possibly appreciate. You want a different roof, take it from me, get a different car. =)

I feel the need to stress two things. Sorry for using a seperate post to do that, but I think it'll stress them more this way.

1. I wasn't trying to be offensive, or tell you you're wrong, or anything of that sort. I was only trying to share what I knew and you may not have. I meant it to be helpful, no more, no less.

2. Seriously, don't do this. =)

to be perfectly honest, a twin-turbo is a terrible idea on a 4-cylinder. there's a reason no one makes it for an inline 4. As for the targa, even been in one? They squeak, they leak, they're heavy...
Your car will be so heavy after adding in all the reinforcement that you'll need a v8 to get it going. Why do you think the conv. 240 weighs 500 lbs more? If your uncle is just gonna chop it, fine, but you'll die in a crash. Seriously.

btw, what do you drive now? how old are you?

yeah, for real, thanks chickenman...

twin turbo impossible on the sr20det? have you kids heard of the ksp engineering 800 horsepower s14 in japan with TWIN TURBOS?

it'd be a helluva long buildup, luv, but shit, its possible and its been done (though i havent heard of one with targas). to have an engine like that ksp engineering one, you'd need tons of miscellaneous parts, engine internals, and of course the turbos - the ksp runs two HKS ball bearing GT series turbos, GT2540s, which would come out to around 4-6000 for the turbos alone. youd would, however, have one of the sickest 240s in the states.

OK lets all calm down a bit. With the exeption of a few people most of you are attacking this girl cuz she is different and that's just dumb. If you own a body shop you can paint a car and chop the top for under a G. So that figure is reasonable. Ofcourse her uncle is not charging her for labor which is cool. As for the twin turbo she readily admitted she didn't know much about it and I'm sure after doing some research Luv will see that a single large turbo is more reasonable; or a different engine choice.
