Fix it ticket Help!

So about a month ago I got pulled over for having a "loud" exhaust and the cop asked me to pop my hood. My car has an aftermarket air intake that does not have the carb sticker and he wrote me up for it and gave me a warning for the exhaust now I have to take the car to the state referee to get it checked out until then my car is not allowed on public roads does anyone know if the inspection is just visual or they smog your car because my car has a catalytic convertor but it is rusted out and will not pass. I live in California if that helps

you have 2 choices -

1) buy a carb legal intake that has the carb sticker

2) put it back to stock and get it checked.

They don't smog your car again. They just want to see that you fixed it.

Just a bit of friendly advice:

In my 7 years of living out in the Valley, I've been pulled over once and that was because I was going 25 mph over. Even then, I didn't get asked to pop my hood. My car is low, sleeper KA-T, has a BRM exhaust that looks relatively stock, and at the time only my hood was mismatch but now all body panels except for the OEM Type X front is painted the same color. Overall the car does look modified but nothing suspicious...now keep this visual in mind.

I have a friend that drives around with a stock exhaust with an SR but the entire car is haggard. Multi colored, low, zipties, terrible fitting aero. That being said, out of all of my friends, he's pulled over often. Hasn't been asked to pop his hood but he's really at risk with how obnoxious the car looks.

Now I'm not saying your car is a bag of crap. What I'm trying to get at is that cops in the Valley generally aren't as bad as the rest of LA county. Generally speaking, cops will not ask you to pop your hood. My Honda buddies with swaps don't get asked either and their cars are something else.

So what does that say about what cops think about your car? Just something to think about if you want plan to just put a stock intake/exhaust in for your ref appointment and remove put back your aftermarket stuff afterwards. Law enforcement generally have better things to do in Van Nuys and pulling over a car for an exhaust note over law requirements isn't a high priority.

My exhaust isn't loud it just looks loud because it's an apexi dual exhaust with a resonator. It was a motorcycle cop and he just pulled me over for no reason I was going about 30 on 4th gear and my car doesn't look too sketchy it just has faded paint. Anyways I'm going to be putting the stock air intake it's not like the aftermarket makes big HP gains my car came with it so I left it. My only concern was that I wouldn't pass smog if they test my car but I'm going to make the appointment as soon as I buy the stock part if they don't smog the car. Does it matter if it has a check engine light?

I was so close to doing an SR swap too but I think I'm just going to keep my 240 stock and buy a smog exempt car

When I was sent to the ref some 7 years ago, I got a fix-it ticket for intake, header, and exhaust. They actually did smog my car there at the station. Every situation is a bit different. Some smog, some don't.

Your best bet is to revert the car back to stock, take it in, and see what they say.

Did your car pass? Even if I put all stock parts on I doubt it will pass the car has some issues
