s14 Rear Quarter Glass

My window ws busted out and I now have a replacement window. Anyway to the point, In the pics below there is a black ring that outlines the shape of the window, i have a few questions pertaining to that 1) Can i re-use the sealer that is on the body right now and just add more, 2) Do i need to remove this sealer and lay a fresh layer down, 3) if this old layer needs to be removed what is the best method of removing this stuff and lastly what is the name of the sealer used and where can i buy it, because i do not want to run into problems with the window seeing as i am about to drive from illinois to san diego next week for relocation. Thanks for the input

Remove as much of the old sealer as you can, using a grinding wheel, scraper, or something similar. Heating it up will help get it off faster.

When installing the new one, go buy a tube of windshield urethane sealant, most auto parts store carry it, if not any competent autobody supply store will have it. Comes in a tube like caulk, lay a fine bead around the perimeter then press the glass in place, hold it firmly for a few minutes then tape it down to prevent it from forming air pockets.

Hair dryer will work, will take a bit longer than a heatgun but enough heat will soften it good enough to scrape off.
