Especially tnord, seroiusly man, you really need to chill a little with the newbies. It's one thing if they come on like they know all, but if they come here asking questions, that's the newbie we want to have stay.

I remember how people used to complain about Freshalloy...saying people were such jerks, yelling at newbies to use the search when they were asking the same questions...blah blah blah. The same people would also say the opposite of Zilvia..how you could ask a question, and it'd be answered, not reamed up the @$$ because you're a newbie, and wasn't aware that thousands of other newbies had already asked the same question.

Now, it's almost worse the Freshalloy, as we do not have the experience that they do over there, yet, we have the same atmosphere...hmm...

Seriously, the attitude as a whole on this board is going downhill...it has for some time. sure, there's a lot of people...but it's losing the one thing this board had over freshalloy....the nice, relaxed accepting personality.

I also remember when people used to post messages showing off their neon lights they just put in their car, and everyone accepted it, to each their own, and if someone posted a negative message, everyone would jump in to defend the guy in his diversity...now it's almost the opposite....pitiful. <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt='???'>

It seems like some people feel like the is "their" board, and feel like anyone who doesn't know anything about the 240 should not be allowed on the forum, let alone own a 240. Is this really the kind of atmosphere we want here?<img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/eh.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':eh:'>

I would think the moderators would discourage this kind of attitude...as it's greatly detrimental to this board. This post http://www.zilvia.net/f....t=16839 was entirely unacceptable, that guy did nothing but ask a simple question that has been asked many times before, and a few people decided he was not worthy and decided to belittle him...for no reason other then his lack of knowledge and choice of UserID. <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/hmmm.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':hmmm:'>

I can't say that I agree with ya... &nbsp;I read that post... and the guy got his answers. &nbsp;Don't spend $14k for something that will look the same as the $5k '95. &nbsp;Tnord tried selling his car, and two people ripped on him for his typing. &nbsp;I would rip on him too, because that is just hard to read. &nbsp;People need to know that it is a PITA to read, and slow to type...
He got his info, said a piece, and left. &nbsp;Oh Well. &nbsp;Is it your brother? &nbsp;Friend? &nbsp;Then Shut The Fu*k Up already!

I agree w/ what u jus said Tnord always does his jerk routine towards newbs and all. But then i understand why he does cuz why waste a beautiful front end of a 97-98 kouki? But it is pretty harsh on hea now u cant even ask question and to get a small and simple question back. I think some ppl on hea are too opinionated these days. But I havent been on here for awhile i doubt anyone really gives a shiet but the atttitude towards newbs is totally absurd i think. We need to chill the hell out and stop being assholes towards newbs. Also i wanna say is that newbs should have a healthy well being knowing what the hell they are getting into be4 askin dumb questions like that kid did... oh well its not like i care neways jus messed up how we act and all

I agree with you bro, this site gets worse and worse man. &nbsp;It used to be you'd get ripped for not using the search function, now you get ripped for saying hi. &nbsp;

First things first, the 240 is not a select car for the Gods. &nbsp;Why is it that everyone gets so damn defensive right away, like some newb is stealing our cars and turning them into little rice boy goblins. &nbsp;Ya know maybe if we turned an ear instead of turning our heads away from newbies we would actually help.....imagine that help ppl do the right thing with the car. &nbsp;And this is not directed at everyone on this board, but there are a lot of ppl who think their sh!t doesn't stink. &nbsp;Grow uuuup. &nbsp;And you guys talk about NICO and how bad that site was.

maybe he is an elite hacker and he automaticly types that way? just joking.

he doesn't have to be a friend or family member to at least have a LITTLE respect. he's simply someone who's interested in 240SX's and didn't know it would be more economical to buy a 95-96 instead.

I'm not trying to start anything, but FreshAlloy has handle that situation pretty well or at least toned it down. &nbsp;By making a "basic" section, must of the newbies can ask questions without getting bashed, but no matter what someone will say "Search.....use the search function". &nbsp;There archive is far bigger then this one, and has more content that even someone took the time to search, they would find there answer (most of the time). &nbsp;BTW, I think FA replys much quicker then Zilvia. &nbsp;When I just got my 240 and had no idea what was what I took sometime...did some research and decided to sign up with FA to get some advice....which was really good (both knowledge and response). &nbsp;I joined this forum, because the layout was nicer....but FA is still the ish &nbsp;<img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''> &nbsp;I'm probably not making sense and I'm just rambling on. &nbsp;<img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/huh.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':huh:'>

The bashing needs to stop.....to a certain extent. &nbsp;If the guy is asking a simple question that makes, give him advice and make a note to do a search. &nbsp;Believe it are not, post like that can improve a search result in the near future because not every thread (or person) has the same post/response.....get what I mean?

If the guy is an ass and jumps off thinking he knows his ish...then he desires to be bashed or flamed....I'm not going to mention any names. &nbsp;<img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sigh.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''>

Once this forum goes vB, its needs to straighten up a bit....or introduce a better archive.

Jeff240sx-thanks, you just proved my point. &nbsp;

Instead of helping people out...some feel like they need to belittle everyone who doesn't realize that a 95-96 would be better if doing a s15 swap.

and for the name thing...it would be much easier just to tell them that reading their name like that is really hard...plus...he put his real name..you could just use that...unless that's just too personal for you? &nbsp;I'm just saying that you can make a point to someone, and still be nice enough so as not to be offensive.

</span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Quote </td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE">If the guy is asking a simple question that makes, give him advice and make a note to do a search. &nbsp;Believe it are not, post like that can improve a search result in the near future because not every thread (or person) has the same post/response.....get what I mean?</td></tr></table><span id='postcolor'>

and this is what I'm talking about. &nbsp;there's a way to do it, while not alienating all the new guys.

and I'm not trying to say FA is better the Zilvia.net....I've told people in the past, that for most of my general 240 chats, and hanging out and just sharin info with each other...I like to use Zilvia. &nbsp;It's just that a few guys on the FA forum, really know their stuff...I mean, you can ask Asad just about anything 240 related, and he almost always knows the correct answer, so if I can't find the answer here...I try posting there.

I really feel that Zilvia can sustain itself against FA by just the casual atmosphere that it had when I originally signed up. &nbsp;I'm really not trying to personally attack tnord, it's just that that post really shows what I'm talking about.

I mean, if you meet someone on the street, who's overly enthusiastic, and asks a question that's asked all the time on the boards, do you instantly start bashing on him? &nbsp;I certainly hope not. &nbsp;And not everyone knows that you can search. &nbsp;It's kinda like school....the only stupid question is that not asked....sorry &nbsp;but it's true. &nbsp;

I'd rather people ask question's and get correct answers then coming up with the incorrect answer by themselves...and then spreading that around...

lol... i thought he gave a pretty sly response: buy his '97 if he wants the '97.

Seriously though... something like that could EASILY be searched on ANY board, even NICOs. &nbsp;It doesn't matter how new you are: if you're getting into something you start with the basics before diving into the deep end.

Remember that time when we all answered the newbies' questions and welcomed them to the board? Me neither.

I'm just glad I don't own a 240 because I'd go apeshit if I had to deal with some of you on a daily basis for help. Take your holier-than-thou attitude and drift it off a cliff.

I see this kind of post come up on just about every automotive forum I visit.

My response: New members that come in with something positive to add to the community get accepted. &nbsp;It happens all the time and noone notices it. &nbsp;Even if they're just shopping for a 240SX and don't know much about them. &nbsp;We all started somewhere, and we're all here. &nbsp;If anything internet forums are a lot more forgiving now than they once were, so what does that tell you?

If someone comes in with a name that sounds like it came right off some ricer's windshield banner, and asks a silly, common, and downright fad question, they're going to get bashed. &nbsp;The 240SX has gone from dirt cheap RWD wheels to a JDM fashion statement right before our eyes, and a lot of people don't like it. &nbsp;As much as it's our duty to be accepting of new fans, it's also our duty to be honest to them in ways that Import Tuner and Super Street won't. &nbsp;People come in with a head in the clouds notion of what they think a 240SX is. &nbsp;An engine swap isn't like bolting on an intake. &nbsp;Drifting isn't easy or friendly to your car. &nbsp;And there isn't anything magical about a Silvia.

I agree 100% with AKADriver. &nbsp;We are polite and cordial to TONS of newbies. &nbsp;We help answer questions EVERY DAY!. &nbsp;Don't make it out like we are holier than thou. &nbsp;We aren't. &nbsp;If we the members don't set the expectations of what is acceptable on the board, then the board will go to shit. &nbsp;I was a newbie once, so was everyone else. &nbsp;Did they get bashed? &nbsp;NO. &nbsp;Because we asked INTELLIGENT, THOUGHT OUT questions. &nbsp;And hung around and just read before posting. &nbsp;Did some Searching. &nbsp;It worked, and DOES work everyday. &nbsp;QUIT WHINING. &nbsp;Honestly, if you think its so bad, go somewhere else. &nbsp;Cause I think the comradery, and helpfullness is downright awesome here. &nbsp;A lot of people on this board will go out of there way to help you find info on something if you were not able to find it yourself. &nbsp;As a newbie, you have dues to pay. &nbsp;Just like any club. &nbsp;there is a break in period. &nbsp;GET OVER IT.

I agree with the 2nd half of your post. Though I think some of us here do go out of there way to help and some are just fed up with the same questions (travis &nbsp;<img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''> ). I personally have no problem helping or researching something that someone wants to know and is sincere about. However I dont like helping people that ask how to put the SiLvIa conversion together. At first it was kinda cool people started noticing our cars... well not really to me, I hunted for one since last sept and didnt finally get one until early last june. We can only hope for a better world, one where the 240 will not be on every cover of Rice World Magazine, and the newbies here will have actually done research or have a legitement question about the 240.

Alright Im done

I agree with those that mentioned that there are a lot of newbies that never get bashed and never get their egos bruised. &nbsp;Why? &nbsp;Because the enter the community in a polite, responsible manner and/or they are the kind of people we want here. &nbsp;

This is a community. &nbsp;And, like it or not, communities have standards. &nbsp;In our normal lives, there are some people that we wouldn't chose as friends because they either look or act annoying - to us. &nbsp;We react to that. &nbsp;Same thing here - you register some rice-soundling s/n in alternating caps and you've made a statement about yourself. &nbsp;You follow it up by saying you're all show and no go and people will judge you. &nbsp;Ditto in the "real" world. &nbsp;That's how communities work.

The result is that the person either gets pissed off and joins some other clique/board, adapts, or just takes everyone's sh!t. &nbsp;We've had it all here. &nbsp;There have been several people that I have been initially harsh in "welcoming" that I now think are excellent members of the community. &nbsp;They adapted. &nbsp;There are also a few people that just seem to hang around b/c they like to get in fights - Loren comes to mind.

In any event, the bottom line is that with a community comes a certain bit of cliquish behavior. &nbsp;Around here, there are some definate cliques that focus on driving the car, not pimping the car. &nbsp;That clique happens to be very vocal and happens to set the tone for much of the discussion here. &nbsp;FA has it's cliques too. &nbsp;If you ask about turbos, pimpy JDM stuff, or drifting you will get many replies. &nbsp;Ask about most mechanical problems, brakes, tires, or track/autox driving and you will hear the distinct sound of crickets. &nbsp;That isn't their bag. &nbsp;

I too think Travis is sometimes a bit hard... but not enough to worry about. &nbsp;Generally, if he jumps on someone too hard, others will come to the rescue. &nbsp;

This may be a bit off topic, but I think that you shouldnt be considered a newbie just from the amount of posts you have. &nbsp;I get treated like crap a lot just because it says newbie under my name, but I've been a part of this site for over a year. &nbsp;I consider myself quite knowledgeable in the car world, no I don't know everything, but at least I know what I'm talking about when I post. &nbsp;Maybe it's cause I'm a girl. &nbsp;Not that I want to start anything by saying that.
Does that make me a newbie just because I'm not posting 5 million times a day? &nbsp;And I'm sure I'm not the only one with this problem... <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':angry:'>
Sorry about the rant but sometimes it just bothers me.

werd. i agree!!!
waaaa waaaaa waa waaaa waaa

quit being a bunch of babies. so what if people are rude to them. when you come on asking "will someone teach me to drift" or quoting super street. your asking for it!!

anywhere you go people are harsh to the newbs, especially the 240sx becaue its the new fad. its the new bandwagon. all those honda guys selling their cars and jumping ship to get a "godly" SR and such.

if the newbs just HUNG back for a bit, layed low and read before posting "how do i slam my car?" people wouldnt mind as much.

if your morale is so fragile, then you shouldnt be on webboards, because 99% of the people out there are shit talkers and liars. i give people a hard time but in person i'm the nicest 240sx guy. i helped toso intal subframe spacers on a good 6-10 people's car! i go to all the local meets and track events. so if you are on the webboard balling your eyes out because someoen called you a "dum dum" then you should look at yourself in the mirror and reconsider your life that you are so fragile emotionally that being made fun of over the internet will forever damage your personal confidence and feelings.

dont use the internet and ASK for help if you are emotionally fragile.
grow up.

I get treated like crap a lot just because it says newbie under my name, but I've been a part of this site for over a year. I consider myself quite knowledgeable in the car world, no I don't know everything, but at least I know what I'm talking about when I post. Maybe it's cause I'm a girl. Not that I want to start anything by saying that.
Does that make me a newbie just because I'm not posting 5 million times a day? And I'm sure I'm not the only one with this problem... <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':angry:'>
Sorry about the rant but sometimes it just bothers me.</td></tr></table><span id='postcolor'>
hehehe, I feel ya, i've been here for a while and i still dont have as many post as the rest... I'll just start posting my ass off so I can be cool like them. &nbsp;<img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''>

Newbies do get annoying sometimes, askin the same damn question... I think only one post is necessary for those threats and it should read "Do a Search" and thats it, not all the 420 billion dickheads remarks we always see on each newbie thread. I do think that everyone needs to stop going bashing crazy with the newbs.

On another forum i'm a member at, everytime before you can post anything it asks you something like "If you didnt find your question doing a search, click here to make your post" I think that would help.

about Tnord... I think he's just markin his territory. Dont fuck with him hes a killer! &nbsp;<img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''> &nbsp;<img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''>

I registered on this forum at the end of Nov. Why? Because my transmission took a dive. Prior to that, I hadn't needed any help that I couldn't get from the guys I usually roll with. I read through every transmission post I could find using the search function, and when I couldn't find the answer to my question, I thought it out and worded it VERY carefully. I had visions of asking "Where can I find a transmission?" and having some crack head spouting off with "Under your car, it's attached to the engine." Guess what, not one smart ass reply. Could it maybe be because I at least made an effort to ask an intelligent question? Being a Newb myself, even I get irritated when someone wants everyone else to do their work for them. I went to at least 20 dealerships, and called every ad in the auto trader for three months before I found a 240 that I was willing to drop the cash on. Ask me for a general idea of prices in my area for comparison, and I'll be happy to help. Ask me where you can find a 240 to call your very own, and even though I might restrain myself, I'm thinking really hard about sending you to ebay.
