2 CHP/Smog Questions
Hey guys. I'm about to get my 240sx rollin again and I have 2 big concerns.
1. My dash VIN does not match the vehicle, as it is from a different vehicle. I don't have the original dash because I bought it this way. I will -not- remove it or tamper it in anyway, I'm not risking that here in California. I have read that all I need to do is call a vin inspector at CHP and have them make me a blue tag. Is this correct? 2. Secondly, the car is a 1989 KA24E with a 1995 KA24DE swapped into it. Will this cause me any issues when I go and try to smog it, or will it not matter since it's from the same car?

I once got pulled over and the cop was a real prick. He kept telling me my car was stolen, even though it had been registered to me for several years. After about 15 minutes, several more cop cars, and multiple vin checks, they admitted it wasn't stolen and let me go. It isn't a big deal you just got to know how to talk to a cop and not over react. They "can" be reasonable if you aren't lieing.

especially on zilvia, where most likely this will turn into a "why not just LS swap it" thread. 1. why not call the inspector at CHP and ask them? 2. check with the BAR inspector, or at least look on the BAR website. i know for a fact that it has the listing for engine swap requirements. |

I would do as brndck recommends, but just from my own experience, my s13 is a '90 and had a KA24DE. It passed smog legitimately and the smog techs never said anything about it. The only time it was an issue was when my husband drove it and got pulled over by Baldwin Park PD. The cop thought he knew it all, and said he studied the engine booklet given to cops. So he started pointing out stock parts stamped with the Nissan logo and kept saying they were aftermarket. -_-' In the end he ended up giving my husband a trip to the ref station and had to have it smogged there.
