That's a good idea. I would like to see that.

yep, michelin pilot sport 2's. always see them in the dumpster at the porsche dealer next door. 245/40/18's and 285/35/18's, always bald as fuck too. but why is porsche testing it against the GT2? its not suposed to be a GT2 killer, and i hate everyone that uses the Viper ACR in those tests. no shit its gonna go faster than all the cars its race ready. test the ACR against the Vspec when it comes out and then lets see how great it is.

Of course the ACR will be tested against the Vspec, kinda hard to do that now though wouldn't you say.

It's a production car, and right now it's king of the ring. GM and Nissan could release a Club Racer version you can order right from the dealer, no one is telling them they can't. Like I said I'm not a viper fan, but I think they did a great job!

im just saying, its not really in the class with the cars its being tested against right now. use a regular viper right now and when the ZR1 and Vspec come out have another test.

Why wouldn't dodge throw their best dog at the ring. It's not there fault they are ahead of the game. Also it doesn't really matter when these ring times are done as the cars are being finished at different times. This ACR ring time is going against the GTR time that was done months ago.

Ah I see, I am the opposite. I could pretty much careless what most rags say. That said, I think it's understandable for them to do so. Not many cars in that performance area to pit against. Nissan, Porsche, GM, and Dodge and not much else. It's a car a GTR owner will have to contend with if they bring their car to the track, so why not have them be tested against each other in a rag. It's going to happen in real life. You should always want to go up against the best. Nissan could bitch out and say the ACR isn't what they are after, but I can tell you right now they know what the ACR did at the ring and they are going to do everything they can to get the Vspec around the ring faster. I love these ring wars it breeds great cars!

This is something that can be debateable in so many different ways its not even funny. Whether its tires, driver error, etc. Why cant Porsche be the bigger people and admit defeat, and strike back with something better. You cant hold your position for ever.

The ring is one of the best testing surfaces on the planet. It is impossible to replicate what the ring has without going through the history of it. As a matter of fact, it is so good, Benz engineers have a mock track in a computer in which they compute suspension load on their cars with when they put it on whatever the hell you call a suspension stress tester.

I will say this: Porsche did not call out Nissan without proper provocation. Do you know what this would do to their publicity if they called them out only to be kicked in the ass? Germans aren't like that... trust me, I know, I moved here

On the other hand, I have no doubt the GT-R is fast. The circumstances around it though, obviously are in question. I say hold all judgment until we see what Nissan says. If they don't respond, obviously something is afoot.

I agree on both counts as I am a German and lived there for a short period, and without a doubt consider The Green Hell the best test bed for performance cars.

If you are into magazine test, C&D just did the Lightning Lap test at VIR. Don't know why the z06 and porsches where missing this year. Also no LL4 cars. LL3 just had the GTR and ACR. (pretty lame)

The Lightning Lap, 2008 - Feature/Features/Classic Cars/High Performance/Hot Lists/Reviews/Car and Driver - Car And Driver

LL1 (under $30,000)
LL2 ($30,000–$60,000)
LL3 ($60,000–$120,000)
LL4 ($120,000–$240,000)
LL5 (above $240,000)

LL5 MOSLER MT900S...................................2:45.9
LL3 DODGE VIPER SRT10 ACR........................2:48.6
LL5 FERRARI 430 SCUDERIA..........................2:54.6 (my favorite car)
LL3 NISSAN GT-R.......................................2:55.6
LL2 CHEVROLET CORVETTE Z51....................3:01.2
LL2 CADILLAC CTS-V..................................3:04.0
LL2 BMW M3.............................................3:0 5.6
LL2 MERCEDES-BENZ C63 AMG.....................3:06.5
LL1 CHEVROLET COBALT SS TURBOCHARGED...3:13.0 WOW
LL2 MITSUBISHI LANCER EVOLUTION MR.........3:13.3
LL2 BMW 135i............................................3: 13.7
LL2 LEXUS IS F..........................................3:14.0
LL2 AUDI S5..............................................3: 14.6
LL2 HONDA S2000 CR..................................3:15.0
LL2 DODGE CHALLENGER SRT8......................3:16.3
LL2 LOTUS ELISE SC...................................3:16.6
LL2 INFINITI G37 SPORT..............................3:17.5
LL2 SUBARU IMPREZA WRX STI.....................3:19.0 Wow Fail
LL1 DODGE CALIBER SRT4............................3:20.8
LL2 VOLKSWAGEN R32.................................3:21.8
LL2 HONDA CIVIC MUGEN Si..........................3:24.8
LL1 VOLVO C30 T5 VERSION 2.0....................3:26.6

My favorite car in the world beat by the ugly ass dodge.

You can't deny dodge did a great job on the viper acr. It was 7 sec faster than the GTR and 6 sec faster than the 430, and this is on a much MUCH smaller track than the ring.

I am very impressed with it. Maybe I will take a flat black one so it hides it's ugliness. lol

the viper is hot and much faster than the GTR
and if you drove the GTR like they did on the 'ring, you'd void your warranty.

God damnit! I hate the fact that the cobalt is doing good, their gonna be everywhere . People used to say the srt4 was "still a neon" well this SS is "still a cobalt" which is worse IMO. Losing to a cobalt I hate that idea...

ok.....so just for the tire thing that i saw. i checked 6 turbo's today. no michelin's. that's my bad. they use pzero's and potenza's. the guy that mentioned the pilot sports. those are for the cayman's and boxer's and a couple carrera's. the turbos rear tire is like 315/30 or something like that. just to clarify.

You guys do realize the ACR is pretty much a race car right? I know in one of the tests done by a magazine (I forget which) Dodge actually sent out a technician to adjust the suspension depending on the track. Nice putting that up against a stock production car.

IMO a few things Nissan got right, and no other cars can quite fall into this catagory in price, versatility & performance wise. Closest thing in these catagories is the C6 Vette but unfortunately unless its a Z06 model, it doesnt quite compare favorably enough to a GTR performance wise and lacks rear seats (not really needed but hey its nice to have).

1) It performs like a supercar should, fast, agile, responsive.
2) Its roomy and comfortable, can seat 4 if needed.
3) Its got a actual usable trunk space.
4) Cheaper then most any other sports cars in this performance catagory and it's unique.
5) Most likely will be more reliable then the other exotic car's respective class.

Im sure everyone will have their opinions but this is mine.

Again it is a production car you can buy off the showroom floor and drive home, get inspected and insured. Drive it to work if you like. It's in the same price range. Please tell me again why they shouldn't be tested against each other?

Hey guys in my opinion Porsche is just worried that they wont be able to compete with the likes of NISSAN considering their V-Spec GT-R is due out next year. Just a reason to get more design in for the GT2 and turbo

If Porsche did pull off a consistent result on the ring as Nissan claimed, i think they would have just said, "Oh shit." and made the next 911 a LOT better... Let's see how Nissan responds.

I always find accusations like this flawed. Only way I could this being a valid accusation is if all other variables were to be as controlled as possible. Same tires, same driver, weather, track, etc. Until I see other independent tests, i'll stick with the gtr. Granted I'm a bit bias towards it, however so far from what I've seen, the gtr really kicks some ass. also, C&D is about as least credible source out there. I take reviews with a grain of salt.

The most valid comparison of the GTR and the Porshe would be to stick both cars on a track the same day, same time, at the same place. Tires on each must be available from the showroom floor. As was said before, tire compound, size, and tread pattern all play an enormous roll in time around a track. And due to the differences in the vehicles, one driver behind the wheel of both doesn't make sense. Both Nissan and Porshe should supply a test driver that know how to handle their vehicles. Only a situation such as this would provide us with a truly accurate comparison.

Ultimate showdown...I just wish that the enthusiast world would get to see it.

Nissan offers more evidence of GT-R 'Ring run: second video and pic of tires

Nissan released a second video of the incredible 7:29 lap time achieved by the GT-R earlier this year at the Nürburgring Nordschleife along with a photo of the stock tires that were installed on the car at the time. It did so to dispel accusations that the time might not be 100% authentic. Porsche in particular seemed highly suspicious, and boldly claimed its belief that Nissan wasn't using stock tires at the time. The new video starts with some off-track buildup and shows the 50kg of test equipment that was on-board the car at the time, as well. Although we don't speak Japanese, we think that's what they're talking about along with discussing the fresh stock tires that were fitted to the car. The actual lap starts about 4 minutes in and looks pretty authentic to us. We're sure there will continue to be questions and complaints from all sides in this controversy, and we know that this is starting to turn into a a bit of a melodrama, but we really can't help ourselves.

JESUS CHRIST look at the entry speed of that one turn at 1:43. That's a famous turn too, don't know what it's called haha. Once again, things like this make me proud to own a Nissan.
