driveshaft differences s13/s14/abs/non-abs
I've got an auto S14 with ABS and am about to do a 5 speed swap. Can I pretty much use any 5 speed driveshaft from any s13/s14? Or do I have to go for an ABS driveshaft from an s14? What is the difference between the ABS and the non-ABS driveshaft....can i make the non-ABS driveshaft work?
Thanks, Pablo |

indeed its been covered, as far as S13 driveshaft forget about it, its not going to work.
as far as S14 differences in lenghts are between the ABS and non-abs in the second part of the propller shaft means that if you do the swap, you can have any 5spd S14 1st part of the (some exception with are with 97/3 + cars) shaft, as the ABS lenght is the same for the auto and 5spd (but difference is still in thickness which can be a problem)... in which case try to source complete S14 5spd ABS shaft for best result and for the right year (95-97/3 are the same then its 97/4 to 98) your good friend in locating parts: http://car-part.com/ |

hey how different is the s13/s14 drive shafts? My friend is going to put s13 tranny into his s14 auto, and we figured the S13 should work with required shortening or lengthing that we could have done for it.

im having the whole vlsd swap non abs driveshaft too long problem, since the drive shaft is 2 piece, and u need a shorter driveshaft (ABS) is it possible to just replace the rear half of your drive shaft with an abs rear half? or would u need to replace the entire thing???

Here my take on it, all the driveshaft front piece's S13/S14 (that goes into the transmision) are the same lenght the only difference that the older S13 use a rubber insulator whereas the S14 uses a universal joint, but which ever front piece you decide to use you would have to use the correct sleeve yoke dust cover reason being is the rubber insulator of the S13 vs the universal joint of the S14 make the requiremeants of the sleeve yoke dust cover different.
P.S. I have not personally measured the S13 vs S14 front piece but have seen both pieces and I know you cannot use a S13 (front piece) driveshaft (becasue of the bulky rubber insulator) into a S14 tranny without changing the sleeve yoke dust cover (to accomodate the bulky rubber insulator) or atleast trim it down. But the drives shaft are literally the same except for the second part of the drive shaft (longer section) which is different lenghts for ABS vs non-ABS. S13 driveshaft (look at front piece): S14 driveshaft (look at front piece): S13 sleeve yoke dust cover: S14 sleeve yoke dust cover: |

Do anyone know the length difference of the rear driveshaft between non abs and abs version?
Is the automatic one same as non abs? S13 chassis.
