Aside from the monetary concerns which would make any deal unlikely anyways, that's not true.
While Nellie does not "preach" defense the way JVG or Popovich might, he doesn't ignore it. After this past season, he certainly won't ignore it anymore. Last year he stuck with the same cast even though they stopped playing defense. Why? Because he didn't think Belinelli or Wright could play defense any better than the tired starters. I don't agree with his assessment, but his reasoning stands. Defense matters, it's just a different defensive system than is conventional. Neither Ellis nor Barbosa is a point guard. Neither Ellis nor Barbosa can guard point guards. Barbosa certainly can't guard shooting guards (just watch GSW/PHX games, Nellie will post anyone on Barbosa just to abuse him inside). Although Baron is the bigger of the two starting guards, he was given the PG assignments frequently, particularly when we needed stops in the beginning of the season. Why? Because Ellis is blessed with ridiculous speed, but doesn't use it to stay in front consistently. Moreover, he frequently got caught up on screens, losing his man in traffic. Barbosa is no better. You can't play two liabilities like that together, even if you're a 3P happy coach like Nellie. |

It's always about the money. Ask Joe Johnson, Marion, Marbury, Q Richardson, Arenas...I mean the list goes on and on. |

^True, but those are still pretty young players
with a lot of years left. Artest is a veteran who doesn't have too many years left in him. Ask Malone and Payton. |

Artest shouldn't be worried about money since he had a rap album come out awhile back

A little bit different imo. Malone and Payton were already HOF players who were willing to sacrifice to get that elusive ring. I don't think that's as important to a guy like Artest just yet. Plus those guys had already played for 15+ years. Artest still has atleast 5-7 years left barring injuries. |

Looks like, according to the word on the street, that the Nets are trying to free up some moneys so LeBron can play for his boy Jay-Z when the nets move to Brooklyn:

Well, looks like our best option was keeping Beasley! I think they where trying to trade him but nothing good came up.
Edit: Just saw the commercial again for the ESPN special following Team USA. Its called "Road to Redemption Presented By Nike" and it will air July 2 on ESPN2. Looks very interesting.

Barron Davis going to the Clippers, didn't see that coming.
http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/column...clipper_080702 Already rocking some LA style. Oh yeah, us having Wade, Marion, Beasley, and Chalmers- its gonna be a good season.

Actually there's a lot of die hard clippers fans. The fact that so many people go to there games even though they've been terrible. Even last year Staples was packed every time I went to a game. There's less celebrities that go because it's the place to be seen and prices aren't jacked way up. I'm just waiting for the Clips to move to Anaheim so I can buy season tickets. It will happen eventually I think.

Where did you hear that?
Everything I've seen heard is that with Baron on board Brand isn't going anywhere just waiting for a new deal. Maggette on the other hand is about 50/50 I think. He's getting a lot of interest and from good teams so that might sway him away. |
