I am gettin an sr swap and while I am at it i would like to take off the ac, and i am also considering taking off power steering, now will my car be way better balanaced, and is driving/drifting better without powersteering, i never did any hard driving in a non powersteered car.

i would recommand you hitting the little search button...but im bored so i'll explain my opinion to you. If i was you i would keep the PS, especally if your a daily driver. I had my off for about 6 month and I didn't like it at all. It was hell in the parking lot and whatever. Without PS you might gain an extra 2HP. You were also thinking about drifting...Hmm....let me think it don't think its very possible for you to drift with no PS. Figure it out

Upside: for the lack of power steering less drag on the motor. although as said above it is a minimal gain

Downside: have you ever driven a car without p/s? on small cars ie a CRX it doesn't matter. four people can pick up and carry a CRX a decent distance ( i know from expierence ) the 240 is a noticeable amount heavier than that. Plus the ratios on a car's steering rack are signifigantly(sp) heavier on a car that was manufactured to have P/S than on one that does not needing more effort in the same car to turn the wheel depending on the rack the vehicle has installed. before you ask the question i don't believe there was a manual steering option for the 240

there is my info. on the idea if you do decide to go with eliminating the P/S be sure to spin the wheel back and forth a few times ot get all of the fluid out of the rack then cap the holes inlet and outlet holes to make sure debris cannot get into the inner workings of the rack. thread pitch is M16x1.5 same as some late model GM cars

My car (95' SE S13 Black) was ran without power steering for a whole day. In this one day, the bracket, pump assembly etc was off and the rack was dry. Going high speeds into corners, you will find it hard to turn hard. The faster you go, the harder it is to turn deeper into the corner. This is good for grip driving, because you can feel that feedback on how hard you are turning compared to speed. For drifting, tough luck on that. It is possible to drift without power steering, but the initial turn-in is what seems hard (high speed, sharp cornering). After I put my power steering on the next day, I noticed it was way easier to drift around corners. The turn I referenced before as "hard to turn @ 80mph" is now taken at 90+.

well my pump was making all kinds of hellish noises and horrible performance, so today i drained all the lines, took off the pump, and removed the impeller so that the pulley spins freely, hence no power steering, but also no noise.

well after a day of driving around like that i can say my forearms are pretty tired. i think i'll get a new, working pump and install it. while i haven't tried it yet it seems like drifting would be difficult. since it takes alot more strength to take a turn at 90 when i usually go 110+

it takes no problem for me. i guess im stronger wooT but come on dude, advantages are too obvious, not to have powersteering isnt an option for 90% of us.

haha you get used to it, i'm 120lbs and the only work out i get is working on my car and i have no problem, i like it without the PS because WHEN DRIFTING you can feel the car start slipping and grabing again, makes you feel like you have lots more control.

i have a 90 so its a matter of finding parts to get my PS back if i had them i'm not sure what i would do. best to drive with both and decide.

i'm used to driving without it now. feel in less control with it on.

You know, one of many things I have never understood about our culture was the belief that being skinny is a bad thing. As a person with less than 10% body fat, I enjoy being thin and relatively healthy, I'd like to be closer to 8% really. Eating will not make a person thicker if they are built small, it will make them fat, flabby and unhealthy...like most americans.

back to the topic at hand, i did alittle drifting today and it wasn't as bad as i thought it'd be, i'll keep the PS out for a while and see how it goes
