You two are generalizing. Some of the people are overzealous 90% of the time. Some, i.e. me, Option Zero and some others on the boards, are in search of two things: higher cornering speeds and world-class braking. I never skimp on tires and my big brakes weigh no more than stock despite prodigious increases in rigidity, clamping force, and heat dissipation capability. I have no dust shields, and I ignored the Z32 uprights I've had sitting in my garage for 18 months because of compatibility issues with my next coilovers. I'm running on admittedly crappy KTS coilovers because, yes, I have a budget and am slowly saving for DA coilovers. However, lighter unsprung weight will actually maximize the performance of the simply mediocre KTS'. I had to say all this because I hate being called a poseur.
byhi, I'm not even sure if you're from this planet. You seem to be from a planet where everyone is holier-than-thou and talks out of his ass. No one cares if you can spin your big-boy wheels. People do care if you can outbrake and outcorner them. Your Colossal-momentum (tm) Big-Boy Wheels add precious feet to your stopping distance. Guess who's going to have the last laugh when you're yanking your bumper support out of the rear of a Silverado? Do you have bling or a big clock around your neck? Is your ring tone "Money" by Pink Floyd? Please stop e-balling. Spare us your lame, your tired, your wretched excuses. Stop cluttering this thread with vitriol that has no rational point behind it. Personally, I think the Volk GT-U is a very good-looking wheel and I've only seen them on a couple S-chassis. CCW also makes some great-looking wheels, and the price tag makes them rare. |

Alright, meph asked this thread to get back on topic, so I didn't respond, but given that it seems to have started up again with the mod not opposing it:
Yeah, a corvette is a better car than a 240. And an f40 will take the corvette. and a couple race cars will beat that. Yet some find enjoyment in MAKING the 240 fast, then BEING a fast 240 driver. That's something to be applauded, not scorned. saying that the 240 sucks, then shrugging off improvements that *actually* would help, then attacking those who try to make it fast...well that's all quite laughable given that *you* drive a 240. So why'd you buy a car that's admittedly so flawed? For style? Hooray? So you have your purpose for the car, others have theirs. For the record, the Corvette, RX-7, and a host of other cars look better than any S-chassis ever will, so your battle is just as futile as others. The hypocrisy is glaring to me. You prize wheel sizing perfection and crazy aero, whether functional or not, simply because it's an area that YOU value. Those falling short of your standards or different from your tastes are inferrior by definition. Yet in other areas, if someone applies the same rigid standards and same disdain for inferiors, you laugh at the effort they put in: in the HID lighting thread, you say, who cares, as long as it works- you don't need a proper retrofit and fine tuning; here with rotational inertia, hey, it doesn't even matter much and you won't "beat a corvette" anyways; so it doesn't matter. Hey, it doesn't matter- to you. I'm all for laughing at people that fail miserably in areas they know nothing about, when someone shows diligence and knowledge, I respect it, and so should you. The guy asking how 5x100 17x7 +40's? We can all flame him to death because the journey is doomed by its own stupidity. But the guy that wants to shave a second or so from a laptime? Let's give him a hand. Drifting is a sport that glorifies style- but isn't about outright speed. Perhaps spending so much time caught up in it has shifted your values, but don't assume that it should be so for everyone else. and Ni Yon Zenki: don't even post |

Make it so. You can pull it off, Massimo. Oh, and props to Option Zero for making more sense than I do. Using their logic, why don't we all drive F1 cars, since they are the pinnacle of technology? SSR Formula Mesh 17x10 -20 for ultimate hotness. Or maybe I could just pull the BBS GTP wheels off the shelf at work... |
