ka24e coolant line delete question

hey guys i did alot of research and i cant find a solid answer for these particular lines. Im currently deleting the vacuum/coolant lines to the TB/intake mani and i was wondering if the u shaped hose coming off of the thermostat housing to the intake mani (right below where the radiator hose connects) can be removed and the nipples plugged?also what is the function of this line? here are some pics to help understand what im talking about

the front nipple goes to the heater but the U shaped hose appears to just attach to the return line off of the intake mani, i dont see a purpose for it
