just got a letter from the police..
i just got a letter from the garden grove police department saying that they have received a "complaint concerning the property."
They said that "auto repair is not a permitted use in residential areas," and that "any inoperative vehicles and all auto parts must be stored inside a fully enclosed garage." The thing is.. I DON'T WORK ON MY CAR AT HOME! As for the "inoperative vehicle" ... well............ this is her. i got rear ended and i'm waiting for insurance to take my car away. ( and I don't have parts hanging around in front of the house like in the picture ) They said I have a week until they inspect my house again, but insurance won't be taking it for another two weeks. I called the number they gave me, but they didn't answer. Any input, advice? Has this happened to anyone else before?

you cant just have a car sitting in your front yard looking like that and not expect to get a complaint.
how long has it been outside for? why dont you put it in your garage, or you should have at least covered it with a tarp or something. |

Get an enclosed ez up if you are unable to park it in the garage. Issue isn't that you have been working on the car, it's simply the fact that you have a junker in front of it.
One of your neighbors simply got sick of seeing your car. From day one it should have had a car cover over it to avoid any issues.

Happends all the fucking time. I just got a ticket for my 16 year old dog limping around the neighborhood, she cant even run, and people are scared. People are just fucking stupid, instead of talking to you like a human, they call the city, and the city are the biggest fucks on the planet. And this happened once, and i was 15 feet down the road, looked at me and smiled, than called animal control. Really?
As for you, put a car cover, that thing is gross.

A portable enclosed carport or two cheap EZ Ups with tarps on the sides are cheaper options.

It's my bad for not having an E-Z up, but you can't even see the car. The only way you can see the damage is if you were in my driveway, standing in between my room and the car...
Other than the rear, there's no damage to the car. Also, my coupe or my grandpa's car is always parked behind the fastback. I do have a garage, but it's completely full. Also, my car won't move. There are no rear wheel wells! X) So I can't move it in the garage even if I had room for it.

Someone on your street simply saw it day after day on their daily walk or whatever and decided to report you. Happens a lot believe it or not.

I got a message like that regarding my mustang, so i pushed it into my garage and they didn't bother me afterwards.
Pretty much, the quick fix for this would be to throw a tarp over it. After that, just keep calling the number they gave you, and once they pick up, just explain the situation and they should get off of your back. I don't think anyone should be saying anything about it if it's under the tarp though, even though it's not in a garage. If it's out of sight, it should be good. |

I bet. Wasn't this car rear ended about a year ago or so? Why has insurance lagged this much? This car should have been taken within a couple of weeks of the accident.

I hate when people won't approach thier own neighboors with simple issues. Since I been in Cali it always resulted in an HOA complaint.
(Due to Apexi N1 Exhaust) Honestly I wouldn't want to look at that for an excessive time. Also if thats your garage in the background a little organization goes a long way. Hell most places I lived in San Diego if you have a garage and can't park in there due to storage issues in a No No. BTW a Tarp doesn't fix the problem as it looks more trashy, by a cheap car cover or put it in the garage. Since its not a secret a car cover isn't gonna help.

Walmart or the Autoparts store will have a cheap car cover for under $25.
Measure the car length before you go out. Pull it down so it covers the whole body, Done.

Cops wouldn't make an issue of it since it's not their responsibility. It's a city issue. Police department will simply assist in the situation.
Doubt a tarp would help. As mentioned an enclosed carport is the best option if you are unable to use the garage.

my neighbors use to complain about my cars. i had an s13 sitting out front, fully gutted and being parted out. they complained about that a lot, cops came blah blah blah. after i bought two Z's, one of which was full of parts, no doors, no hood, no fenders, several different colors... they kinda gave up. that sat out front uncovered for a good month, no complaints.
cover the car with an attractive car cover and that will be the end of your neighbors bitching. people will still complain about a tarp i've noticed.

The guy that use to live across the street to me use to work on a sorts of cars in his driveway. I started noticing public safety and random city district cars drive by to take down a report and snap pictures of every different car that was there on random days. If you can't organize your garage the next best thing is to use a clean car cover. Try taking the letter to the city hall and explain the situation, hopefully that will get them off your back.
