^Indeed 5870's are around 400. 390-410 depending on who makes it.

hopefully in another 2 years, the 5870 will be around... 180, but who knows, gtx295s stayed at around 500 for a whole year before they got discontinued. i think the same might happen to the gtx480 and since they were just released, i bet it will take another 2-3 yrs for them to release a new chip.

That's the card with dual 5870's & 2gigs of ddr5, iirc. If so, think that was released well over 2 years ago. Using that card right now. Regular 5870 is 1gig ddr5, so the $3-400 makes sense. Looking further, seems like ATi just renamed the '5870 x2' into the '5970' They just dropped the 'x2' moniker (not 100% certain about this). Lol, no wonder the price is about the same. Now the Sapphire 5970 Toxic is taking two 5970's together on one card w/ some overclocking. SAPPHIRE- HOME |

5870 x2 is a 5970. so, that doesn't make sense.
xfx does have the 5870 eyefinity 6 monitor with double the memory not dual gpu. and if you read upcoming tech stuff, there is a ati eyefinity 12 monitor card out there. ati rumor release the 6000 series late this year, though. |

BE are just overpriced OCed cards.
i was look at newegg earlier. their pricing some of the gtx470 is just $300. a $30-50 off reg price. tempting but, i'm still waiting for more dx11 content to make me pull the gun. |

@FRpilot understandable.
if anyone wants to get SSD. i have two Corsair Extreme Series 256gb for $450 each *BNIB!!!*. They retail for about $750 you don't need any directx 11 yet since most games do not support. it would be nice to have but there are limited games that have it. what i would do is run a lower end ati 5000series or 4900 series, for you nvidia atleast at gtx260 for now until next year. by that time, your video card will still have value and you can upgrade to the new stuff. my pc is running a EVGA 8600GTS 640mb and it kinda lags when im on optimal resolution for my 22" monitor.

to the ppl that says you only need 3gb of ram is just wrong. just now, i was running 3.3gb. i don't run intensive 3d programs and such. i was running my multiple daily normal apps.
browsing(zilvia), video (watching strikeforce), and my game(kingdomhereos). no other apps were running. i avg 2.9gb normally and my highest usage ive seen was close to 6gb (running scans). |

Haha I missed someone saying that. Windows 7 64 bit requires 2 mandatory just for the OS. I couldn't imagine only needing one GB to run a game like crysis. Personally I think 6gb is more them enough for most people, especially if it is running at 1066. I run 8 but meh ram is cheap.

this is the first time i heard someone say ram is cheap. i wasn't into computers about a year ago, but people were saying ram has tripled in price since then. i got a 4gb dual channel ddr3 kit for about $110 so about $55/2GB.

I wasn't either. It may or may not have tripled but in grand retrospect of what I am willing to spend it is cheap to me.

the lower-end ddr3 ex:800 and 1066 are cheap.
the memory i have is a Corsair Dominator 6gb 1866. Corsair Dominator 6GB 1866 MHz DDR3 review this memory will last for awhile since my current computer is running a LGA775. for you computer gurus out there, i got a Foxconn Avenger P45. I only seen 3 people in the world who has this board and i am the 4th person. Quantum Force "Avenger" exposed! :: TweakTown to me, it beats any board out there and some of the i7 set-ups.

Check out this thread:
Build Your Own AMD/Intel Computer Thread III (Updated 6.12.10) - SlickDeals.net Forums it usually has the best deals on almost all the computer components. i built my computer about 1.5yrs ago for about 700 dollars (give or take 100). Gigabyte UD3P, E7400, 4gb G.Skill (forgot the exact specs), XFX 9800GT. i play 1080p movies perfectly fine. I played SC2 beta in max settings as well. |

2 full 5870 chips with 4GBs on a single card with HUGE copper block! Shit weighs 5lbs! Faster than 5970 which uses 2 water downed 5870 chips. $1200 for the Asus Ares is too rich for my blood. I just ordered a "cheap" Sapphire 5770 Vapor X for about $160 for SC2. I guess when the 6000 series comes late 2010/early 2011, i'll try to pick up another 5770 on the cheap and crossfire them. |

so the computer is up and running very nice, the p6x58d-e is a great mobo.
a lil disappointed with the 5770 512mb only getting a 6.0 in the windows index, def gonna do a crossfire setup in the near future. other than that, been doing my reading on OC'ing and gonna do a 3.6 ghz oc in the next few days (idk if ill ever try to take my 920 to 4.0+, shit freaks me out a bit, that and i dont ahve the proper cooling for it) ahhaha. Just bought an Intel Core i7 930 today for my next build for overclocking and messing around.
Current build with the p55 chipset/1156 socket is almost complete, which will most likely be left stock clock settings. |

haha I do tech support for a living and built my computer back in 2005. Fucking beast machine, now it can barely run windows 7.
I don't really play pc games anymore so I have no desire to build some fucking bad ass home computer. I really want to downsize my case and maybe even build a smaller pc with only one optical drive and ssd main drive and a 3 terabyte secondary. I have an Athalon X2 4200 4 gigs of pc3200 (4 gigs back in 2005 was like god mode) ATI X1900XT Asus motherboard. rest of the specs aren't important, can still boss video games with this rig, but I need some up to date shit to work with. AMD or INTEL highest speed doesn't matter to me anymore. I just want something I can plug up to a 30 inch monitor and run full hd video without a hiccup. Maybe 8 gigs of ram as I do love me some porn. I'll throw something together and see what the crowd thinks. But I am looking to ditch my Lian Li 2100B case as well. Ballin ass case, on rims lol

do they even make 3tb drives? i thought the norm is 1tb, 1.5tb, and 2tb.
at any rate, a friend asked me "what's the point of computers though? you build the fastest shit to browse the internet?" most of the things people do for pc benchmarking is probably way overkill to play games. pc building is like car modification. (ie. people tune engines to make 500whp, but in reality, they will only utilize probably 300 or so and rarely run at the peak). i guess it's in the nature of men, especially those with ocd, to build the bestest fastest shit. isn't there an official computer thread with post of peoples rigs someone started before this thread? |
