Street Coilover Suggestions
Yes, I've done searches about coilovers for about a week now and most of the threads have very little info for street coils so if you're going to post "do a search" please don't bother, thanks.
So i'm looking to get some coilovers for my car. I have a s13 coupe with a KA that I daily drive. I want the car lower but also to have a decent ride so that my wife can still be comfortable in the car. I will be taking the car to the track once or twice a year so I would like dampening adjustability. Are there any suggestions for a good street coilovers with at least a 3" drop and adjustable dampening that won't break the bank. I was considering the Isis coilovers but they seem cheap. I was also looking at ksport street and megan streets but I read the valving is crap. So then the price just keeps going up to the BC and stance. Like I said, I've done a lot of searches but most people are looking for drifting coilovers and then most of the threads have opinions flying off the shelves so you have to wade through hours of B.S. to get an ounce of information. So any good wholesome experience and knowledge would be great. Please don't rag on someone elses purchase or post on why they bought the coils they have unless you have had personal experience with those coils. Thanks. |

Tein SS/flex or some Stance GR pros is what id suggest.
Ksports suck, D2s have poor ride quality, and everything else is either too expenisve or has bad reps for blowing out... Megan streets arent that bad either. |

To be honest Ksports aren't that bad, i bought Ksport Slide Kontrol's for my car and im pleased with what they offer ride quality & so forth but the spring rates i have are more agresive compared to what you're looking for but the 7kg & 6kg might be good enough for you just drive on a soft setting and on track stiffen it up a bit, hope this helps.

I have kts coils from the spl parts site and there nice, 8 front and 6 back, just got done braking them in and put it on the softest damper setting and they feal great, plus they put swift springs in the front for more flex which rides even better. Thats my oppion, i had a friend who has silk roads on his 13 and they ride nice aswell. But silks are hard to come by

I say do 8k and 6k, that being said I was in your situation I was between Megan streets going for a more expensive name brand coilovers. I use my car as a weekend drifter. I decided to just save a bit more and got powered by Max. I also got stiffer I got 10k and 8k cause I really don't mind the stiffness. The way i see it if your going to buy let's say Megan streets there around 800 dollars but for a bit more you could get stance or pbm or dmax. So for about 300 dollars more you get a really good set of coils.

I'm hesistant to buy used coils for several reasons. I don't want to be rebuilding them in a year and they really have an unknow history. If I get new atleast I know where I start. I'm glad to here at least some one is happy with the K-sports. |

It's arbitrary because what you may consider decent others may not
I personally believe that you got to look above the $1500 mark for anything I would consider decent. My advice to you would be to get a set something of quality used to meet your price expectations. |

lol yes the MOTON prices is scary but there are guys running motons on s-chassis you just dont see it often just because they offer way to much for guys who just want street and some drift use out of them.
You have to remember practically every race car has these type of coilovers who race at the top level and not every race series is based on only ferraris, lambos, and Im going to say it Corvette chassis. Sometimes your are only limited to suspension mods |

tien flex's run pretty good for street. comfy and can adjust them for the track.
if your on a budget and want a comfy ride. kyb agxs with some cut springs bro and call it a day. your wife will appreciate you |

Thanks, guys. The wife only rides in the car on occasion so her comfort has about a 25% factor.
I don't like cut springs. The manufacturer would have built the springs cut if they were meant to be that low. Additionally there is no preload on the spring when you cut them. I've had kyb agx on my last s13 with whiteline springs and they were a good ride. My wife had no complaints and it was all I could do to keep her from driving my car. The problem was the ride height was just not low enough with the whitelines and I've always wanted coilovers. The stance LX+ are not offered for the s13 chassis... lame. |

I'm telling you from personal experience. I had a set of Tein HA in the rear with some JIC in the front and they were stiff.... Get a set of Street damping D2 Coilovers. They work wonderfully.

ive searched and DMAX is what i came up with. so i suggest DMAX. why? because people have said that they offer a softer/more comfortable ride than stance. they are 980-1200$ depending on vendor.

KTS makes a very comfortable coilover, which goes quite low, and is rebuildable. You can buy them on auctions here for 75-85,000Y usually...not sure what the market is in the states for them
If you are willing to spend a little extra cash, try to get some entry level g-masters. G-master (GP Sports) makes some of the best all around coilovers on the market today, IMO. As far as tein coilovers, from my experiences, they are fairly bumpy (not good for the wife) and blow easily (not good if you are daily driving and still want them to perform on occasion at the track). I think the main thing you should worry about is keeping the wife happy...so that means REALLY nice ride quality and affordability.

My vote stands with S-tune Nismo Coils, they are the ones i want to get (if you has them and willing to sell.. pm me!)
but they offer a stock ride with better dive, balance and limits body roll without being a brick |

From personal experience, if your looking for cheap, street specific coilovers, then Megan streets are the way to go.
If you got more money, then go with a set from Stance. + I'd rather buy new Megans then buying used coils, usually you don't know how bad they've been beat on lol |
