Lightbulb quick power steering clip/sensor explanation

so earlier today i sent an e-mail to Chasebays.com because i was interested in their high pressure power steering hose(mines leaking).
here was my e-mail;
Quote:
Hello.

I have a 1991 Nissan 240sx fastback, stock everything.
I am interested in your High Pressure Power Steering Hose (CB-N-PS4)
Is this a direct OE replacement?

Also, on the OEM high pressure ps hose theres a little clip (see attached).
I notice your PS hose doesn't have this. Does your hose only replace the big hose?
If so, do you guys offer anything that'll replace that whole line? (i think i have a leak coming from that mid point..)

Thanks,
their response;
Quote:
Our hose is a full replacement. From the rack to the pump. That sensor is just to raise the idle 90-100 rpms when your turning. Everyone finds that annoying, so, unneeded!
im a noob when it comes to working on my engine so this was new information to me and i haven't heard this anywhere so i thought i'd post it just incase anybody was looking into their power steering and wondered what that clip/sensor was for.

thanks chasebays.com!

..but yes, my power steering is leaking. my friend calls my car 'humpty'..because there always seems to be something wrong with it.
<~~ i love this 'smilie' lol

Mine had a heavy leak when I bought the car, instead of dropping the money for a oe replacement I put in a little extra and bought the ISIS SS replacement. I eliminated the sensor and I am very happy with what I got.

yeah, i heard good things about the ISIS replacement. isn't chasebays.com pretty much the same 'high pressure hose'?

i got my car a couple months ago and started having problems with the fuel injectors so i changed those out and then found out soon after that there was a leak in the power steering. hopefully this kit will come in soon and i can get it all replaced this weekend~

Dont know how the chasebays.com one is like, I just wanted to go with the SS line so I wouldnt have to deal with any cuts or rips in the line. Seeing how expensive the "high pressure line" can get, I didnt want to take any chances.

yeah, the chasebays kit includes an ss high pressure hose. i just want to replace the whole thing so i don't have to worry about the power steering again for awhile. once i get it i'll take pictures of the product itself and then how it looks installed.

Yeah, I was going to just get the hoses from chasebays because I don't really need the reservoir..but was told the hoses don't work with the stock reservoir..so just decided to purchase the whole kit.

wait i thought that that sensor was to drop the idle when your maxxed out to prevent unnecessary pressure on the hose

I found a wiki answers for it, says it raises idle speed or disengages A/C compressor to prevent the car from stalling......

Anything else I find seems to say the same thing.....

The purpose of the sensor is to raise the idle to prevent the engine from stalling, because an engine stall would make your power steering... well... not so powerful anymore

loll ..over 9000~!!!

..im a little disappointed with chasebays right now. not on the product (because i haven't received it yet) but the service..
i sent payment on wednesday with 2 days shipping so i can get it to install on saturday. 24 hours later, realized i never got a notification of payment received or shipped so i called..they told me that the payment was never received so the order was never processed..i told them thats incorrect because i sent the payment like 2 mins after i received the invoice. they called me back a few hours later saying the payment has been received but it was because nobody referenced the payment with the order...(whos fault is that..??)
so they said they'll ship it out the next day because it's too late to ship anything out that day(thursday).
so i called Friday morning to see if they can cover the difference of next day shipping ($20) because i told them the first time that i needed the product before Saturday..and they wouldn't because "it cost too much".......
that was just retarded..so i just said fine, i'll pay for it myself.
paid another $20 for next day shipping...only to find out my order is going to arrive Monday(today) instead of Saturday... ... ...

thanks chasebays~

will comment more once the product arrives..

good luck with that..lol

my mechanic installed the kit yesterday...but he ended up cutting one of the hoses to make it fit onto the OEM cooling line because he didn't know it was supposed to go straight to the rack...
now i'm left to decide if i should leave it the way he did it...or buy a replacement line...or have him connect the hose he cut with clamps and take out the oem cooling lines...hmm...

oh...and i failed smog last night..

I'm happy Chasebays is so popular, it's always good to see small guys make new products and have them take hold.

I'm sorry to hear about so many customer service issues.

For their part, the answer is correct ~ the pressure sensor bumps idle to prevent stalling at full lock, when the power steering pump is putting the most strain on the accessory drive. I've never kept this feature, as stalling doesn't happen even with a light flywheel.

For 3 years my power steering sensor was never hooked up, and my engine never stalled (Fidanza lightweight flywheel). However, it will dip down low causing a rough idle. I guess all you really gain from installing the sensor is a consistent smooth idle regardless of how you are turning the wheel. I finally installed it a few months ago and IMO any future swaps I do, I will have it hooked up.

my sensor is now disconnected because i have chasebays kit installed.
speaking of chasebays kit...my reservoir cap is leaking because theres a hole in it..apparenly the fix is to use a quarter... '-__- we'll see..
i think i'm going to have my mechanic redo the PS lines to connect directly to the rack..for some reason i don't trust the set up the way it is now.. =P
